Violence flared up again in Palomas, Mexico, on Monday afternoon when three men were gunned down in a mob-style street shooting as the wave of killings continue in the border region.

Chihuahua state investigators found 40 bullet casings, possibly from AK-47s, where the men were shot while sitting inside a maroon Oldsmobile with New Mexico plates, Mexican police and Luna County sheriff's officials said.

The men were identified as Lauro del Hierro Apodaca, 32, "El Huevo," who was in the driver's seat; Raymundo Rubio Chavez, 23, in the front passenger seat; and Joel Abel Trevizo Acosta, 26, "El Marro," in the back seat, state investigators said Tuesday.

The triple-homicide was the latest in more than a dozen killings this year in the small town located across the border from Columbus, N.M.

Chihuahua authorities have said some of the homicides have been part of a fight for control of the drug trade.

In Juárez, a man listed as Ricardo Rodriguez Zuñiga, was hospitalized at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday with a gunshot wound to the head after he was found off Camino Viejo a San Jose, investigators said. The man had injuries to his wrists and ankles, suggesting he had been tied up.

Monday evening, Mara Tre viño Adame, 53, was fatally shot in a white Ford Explorer by Carlos Amaya street and Avenida de los Aztecas.
