Levin: You Got What You Wanted, GOPe, Your Base is ‘Furious’

By Jen Kuznicki On September 5, 2014 · Comments (17)

This segment from last night’s Mark Levin show I think will hit home with a lot of grassroots conservatives. Linked as they are by Facebook, many of the usual arguments used to unify the right-leaning activists seems to be coming up a bit short lately, and as Mark points out, the establishment got the candidates they wanted, but are worried they won’t win if the base doesn’t turn out.
Mark begins the segment by quoting from a Breitbart article about the US Chamber of Commerce.
According to reports in Roll Call, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will have endorsed four Democratic candidates in the House races by the end of the week.
Wednesday the Chamber endorsed California Democratic Rep. Scott Peters, a vulnerablefreshman facing reelection against Republican challenger Carl DeMaio.
“We believe that your re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives will help produce sustained economic growth, help create jobs, and get our country back on track,” Chamber president Thomas Donohue wrote in a recent letter to Peter, quoted by UT San Diego. “We will encourage the business community to vigorously support your candidacy.”
Georgia Democratic Rep. John Barrow is also slated to receive the Chamber’s official endorsement at an event on Friday, according to Roll Call. Barrow also received the Chamber’s endorsement last cycle.
Other Democratic House members receiving the Chamber’s endorsement this year to date are Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar and California Rep. Jim Costa.
Mark’s partial comments appeared in Breitbart this morning, “Republicans need to understand, the Chamber of Commerce is run by a chameleon, Thomas Donohue is a chameleon. He supported the stimulus, he defends major parts of Obamacare, he supports massive deficit spending each and every year, he supports raising the debt limit, he supported TARP. He is a big government statist. He is a crony capitalist of the worse kind,” he argued.
He went on, “He (Donohue) has poured millions of dollars into primaries to defeat Reagan conservatives, traditional conservatives, tea party conservatives.”
Mark then moves to the Neal Freeman piece at NRO, summarizing its directness toward Mitch McConnell and the GOP establishment this way, “You’ve defeated the tea party, you have the candidates you want, and you’re in trouble. Because the Republican Party doesn’t stand for anything anymore, except big-government status quo.”
He went further, and this is a very important point that conservatives, I’m sure, are making all across the nation, and it is so important because we can see what very well could happen in November as a result of the GOPe treating their base the way they have, and for all to see.
Levin: “We get people who say, rally around the Republican Party, rally around the Republican Party, these are people who are formerly Democrats for the most part, formerly liberals, activists maybe, precinct workers, but they don’t understand . You cannot build a majority, you cannot build a coalition, by cheer-leading. You must stand for something that matters to people. There is no reason to rally around Thad Cochran.”
Mark talks more about the Freeman piece and the Mississippi incumbent Cochran, and the Kansas incumbent Pat Roberts who threw everything they had at the young conservative men who challenged them in primaries. Here is the beginning of the piece, it’s long, but you must read it to understand what really is happening in the Republican Party.
Mitch McConnell is a man of his word. He said that he would crush the Tea Party, and he did. He not only got himself renominated in Kentucky, but he helped renominate fellow GOP senators who, like him, had been primaried by tea-party opponents: Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Pat Roberts (Kan.), JohnCornyn (Texas), Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), and Thad Cochran (Miss.).
Those could turn out to be expensive victories.
Please read the rest at NRO.
Levin: “These are candidates we were told who cannot lose! Something is wrong, something has gone wrong. And it is not noble to say you want the Republican Party to win, when you do nothing to make sure the Republican Party can win.”
Mark refers to a report that the new Majority Leader, Kevin McCarthy has given copies of the Republican agenda to Congress, but also to K Street lobbyists, and gave more information to the lobbyists and we the people know nothing.
Not only that, but the fickle Chamber of Commerce has funded Democrats instead of Republicans, after helping the GOPe get rid of tea party candidates.
Levin: “They (the GOPe and the consultants) trash conservatives as often as they can and whenever they can. And this is the point of the Freeman piece, why would you do that? You got what you wanted, the conservative base is furious. You have the nominees that you want, and yet you stand for nothing except big government statism.”
“What a lot of activist Republicans don’t understand is, most Republicans are not activists. They’re hard-working men and women who want to take care of their families, who love their country. But they’re not gonna just vote because you tell them to vote, or rally because you tell them to rally. Even more than that, why should they?
Why shouldn’t we have a vibrant, forward-looking Republican Party?
Why shouldn’t we have a new Republican Party that excites, that invigorates, that inspires?
Why shouldn’t people like Pat Roberts and Thad Cochran and Mitch McConnell and others, why shouldn’t they retire and make room for others who have more energy, more ideas and are more motivated?”
I found, while listening to his articulation of the problem, that the very bad feeling I have about November and the Republican Party’s chances is justified. Those of us who continue to work at trying to change the Republican’s attitude about its own base can see the brick wall they’ve put up. They’ve divided us and tried to get rid of us so they can be just like the Democrats, intolerant and universally unencumbered by the will of the people. They expect us to climb the wall they built in order to once again, as always, drag them over the finish line in November, but there were actions taken that were, as Freeman says in his piece, “not pretty..or smart.”
The GOPe thinks the “tea party” is a small amount of “crazies” and “purists.” Of course, you would call someone a purist or a stickler if you have no history of, or intention of adhering to principle, and that’s gotta change, fast. It may be that a very weak Republican message and very low turnout because of it will net the result that we have now. The Republicans keep the House, the Democrats keep the Senate, Obama’s impeachment is off the table and will do whatever he likes in the next two years, including keeping Obamacare, which will never implode of its own weight. We’ll have the same “geezers” in the Senate, ignoring the people, and the same feckless Speaker in the House, working hard to purge conservatives.
How long does the Republican Party have before becoming a permanent minority?
    How’s that lawsuit coming?
If the Republican Party doesn’t produce the result they think they will in November, and this is a point Levin made as well, it won’t be the base’s fault, it will be theirs for their division and destruction of the bonds that hold a party together.

Levin: Chamber of Commerce Run By 'Big Gov't Statist'

    Video at the page link:

Talk radio host and author of “The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic,” Mark Levin slammed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over a report that they were backing Democrats in several House races on Thursday.

“Republicans need to understand, the Chamber of Commerce is run by a chameleon, Thomas Donohue is a chameleon. He supported the stimulus, he defends major parts of Obamacare, he supports massive deficit spending each and every year, he supports raising the debt limit, he supported TARP. He is a big government statist. He is a crony capitalist of the worse kind,” he argued.
Levin declared, “We get people who say ‘rally around the Republican Party’ ... you cannot build a majority, you cannot build a coalition, by cheerleading. You must stand for something that matters to people. There is no reason to rally around Thad Cochran.”
He added that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is “sort of like a mob group,” and the Chamber of Commerce “has no scruples.”
