Bad tip sparks search for bodies at Liberty Co. home

HARDIN, TX (KTRK) -- The Liberty County judge says nothing has been found at the Hardin-area home where someone claimed several bodies to be, and now a search is underway for the tipster who gave the false information.

Liberty County Judge Craig McNair said the sheriff's office received a Monday night call from a person who said many bodies were at the house on County Road 2048 at Duff Road, near Hardin. McNair says the caller claimed some of the bodies were dismembered and some children.

McNair says deputies who visited the property Monday found nothing amiss during a quick search. The tipster called back Tuesday morning and said deputies looked in the wrong place.

McNair says deputies who returned later Tuesday found blood on a back door and detected a foul odor coming from the house, but after authorities received a Texas Rangers warrant to search the property, they found absolutely nothing to indicate the claims to be true.

Liberty County Sheriff's Office spokesman Rex Evans says the department will now turn its focus on the tipster. Investigators say they believe the person who phoned in the information isn't from Liberty County but somehow had knowledge of the inside of the house.
