Outraged citizens of Quartzsite, Ariz., turned out in force at yesterday's town-council meeting to urge their five councilmembers to immediately resign.

An overflow crowd showed up after WND reported on allegations of heavy-handed police tactics and possible financial wrongdoing http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=319501 that led to a state of emergency http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=320829 being declared by the council in a Sunday meeting the mayor termed illegal and would not take part in.

A large sign reading, "Go. Quit. Resign," could be seen at the entrance to town hall yesterday, as angry residents often tried to shout down members of the council.

"If there was an illegal meeting Sunday, any business conducted in that business is therefore illegal, null and void," Foster said.

At various points during yesterday's discussion, members of the public yelled at the council in interruptive fashion, to which Town Manager Alex Taft stated, "Excuse me, we need to conduct the business of the town. Please let us do so."

"You're not doing that lady!" a man replied from the crowd.

"Your job performance is disgraceful," voiced someone else at the meeting's conclusion.

The town council has been the focus of national attention ever since WND first publicized the forced removal by police of a woman addressing local lawmakers at their June 28 meeting.

The woman, 45-year-old Jennifer Jones who publishes the Desert Freedom Press, said of the council, "I liken them to monkeys in the zoo. They make a lot of noise and throw a lot of feces around, but at the end of the day they're just primates and don't deserve to be writing checks for [a town of] about 3,800 people. They don't deserve to be managing money. They don't act like they're at the top of the food chain. It's embarrassing."


Mayor Ed Foster of Quartzsite, Ariz., says his town is filled with massive corruption among government officials.

Mayor Foster, a retired Marine and former engineer for Wrigley Chewing Gum, says the town council and police department are filled with corruption.

"He's just an insane person, that chief of police," the mayor said of Gilbert. "He's a Nazi ... he's completely out of control. He thinks he's running the town."

Mayor Foster said it's not just the police chief, but also the town manager and tax collector who are creating a terrifying atmosphere.

"People in town are scared to death of them," he said. "It's just a clear pattern of harassment and intimidation by this government. These people have run this town like they owned it. It's got to be fixed and I'm not going to quit until I see them in jail."

The mayor says the council has even precluded him from examining the payroll. He believes he's uncovered some possible financial malice involving checks being paid to unknown personnel, and he speculates the recipients could be councilmembers themselves, adding up to millions of dollars.

"They're playing a sleight-of-hand with federal money," Foster said. "I've tried to get the FBI, the governor and attorney general involved, and no one has paid attention. But since this video, people are asking, 'What's going on in Quartzsite?'"

Foster now has a Facebook page set up by supporters in his battle against the Quartzsite Town Council.

Members of the town council of Quartzsite, Ariz., have mysteriously vanished from their own government website in the wake of thousands of emails flooding in over reports of police intimidation and possible financial wrongdoing.

The emails have been pouring in since WND gave national exposure last week to the town after local resident Jennifer Jones, publisher of the Desert Freedom Press, was forcibly removed by police as she was speaking at a town-hall meeting June 28.

The emails in the wake of the YouTube sensation frightened Police Chief Jeff Gilbert and the council so much about their personal safety, they held a special, unpublicized session on Sunday, locking out the public and declaring a state of emergency.

As WND previously reported, a typical email was from Robert Bright, stating, "I hope to dear God Jennifer Jones sues your city for every penny she can get! Your type of thuggish governing is why our Founding Fathers of the American colonies decided to throw off the tyrannical rule of King George of England in 1776."

Mayor Ed Foster, who is at war with his own council and Chief Gilbert whom he has called corrupt and "a Nazi," believes potentially millions of dollars of taxpayer money is being illegally funneled to unnamed councilmembers.

On the town council's main page today, all the photographs and email addresses of the mayor, vice mayor and councilmembers have apparently been scrubbed.


A July 13, 2011, screenshot of Quartzsite, Arizona's town-council page has been scrubbed of all names, photos and email addresses.

All that remains is a vision statement, reading, "We, the Mayor and Common Council, strive to make our community the best possible place to live. Furthermore, we encourage our citizens to develop strong ethical, social, cultural, and business relationships to enhance living in our community."

WND is seeking comment from Town Manager Alex Taft as to why the images and email addresses have been taken off the site.

Despite Mayor Foster's information having vanished online, he now has a Facebook page set up by supporters in his battle against the Quartzsite Town Council.

Quartzsite, the self-proclaimed "Rock Capital of the World," is a town of some 3,800 people, but its population swells to 30,000 in the winter months. It's located about two hours by car west of Phoenix, and claims to have 2 million visitors a year, as it sits at the intersection of Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 95.

Town Manager Alex Taft says the clip doesn't show the whole story. She claims the woman is an activist who supports the mayor.

"The prior history is that this woman has been cited between 10 and 12 times for disruption for failing to obey rules," Taft told ABC15.
