McCain Justifies Indefinite Detention of American Citizens with Debunked Statistics (Video)
    Activist Post

Forget about the obvious violation of Constitutional rights that the recently-approved $662 billion Defense Authorization bill inflicts by allowing for indefinite military detention of United States citizens without formal charges or trial by a jury of peers, the justification for doing so just became more absurd. In the clip below, Rand Paul (R-KY) asks John McCain (R-AZ), "if an American citizen is declared an enemy combatant, could they be sent to Guantanamo Bay and detained indefinitely?"

To which McCain replied affirmative; "If they pose a threat to the security of the United States of America." McCain claimed this new anti-American authority was needed because of the "facts" that "27% of detainees who were released get back into the fight."

These so-called facts that McCain has repeatedly regurgitated have long been debunked.

A 2009 report (PDF) by Seton Hall Law Professor Mark Denbeaux found that DOD's claim referring to GITMO detainees returning to the battlefield to be pure fiction.

“Once again, they’ve failed to identify names, numbers, dates, times, places, or acts upon which their report relies,â€

I don't care if 100% of released detainees get back into the fight. Either you have the evidence to hold them (in which case you can charge them and go thru due process), or you don't. If they are released and show up on the battlefield, kill them there. By the way, how many of the 27% of detainees released who went back to the battlefield were US citizens?

Also, if US citizens are arrested on terrorism charges, there is a difference between naturalized citizens and US citizens. For naturalized citizens, strip them of their citizenship. Should be easy (if you have the evidence).

Frankly I believe McCain, Lindsey Grahm, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, President Obama, the DNC, and the RNC all pose a security threat to the United States. When are they going to be rounded up and squirreled away someplace with out Habeas Corpus, due process, access to an attorney, or a speedy trial by their peers?

One more point. Didn't the Obama administration insist that enemy combatants be 'Mirandaized" when captured? So they get read their rights and US citizens do not?
