SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

430 ILCS 65/4.5 new
430 ILCS 65/8 from Ch. 38, par. 83-8

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Effective January 1, 2010.

Let me guess, and illegal alien will break into your home, and if you shoot him, he will get money from your insurance policy. I guess that's why in the Concealed Handgun class here in Texas, they tell you to shoot to kill, so they can't turn around and sue you. That is your legal right.

They are determined in one way or another to make sure you can't have one, or have to be rich to have one.

Be curious to know how much that runs a person.

My question is, do any insurance companies provide this specific type of insurance or, in the Illinois tradition, is this legislation a gift to a political supporter.

I have never heard of such insurance.....it's news to me. Guess I'll have to try the bow and arrow.

On second thought, now people will forego getting the card when they buy guns. That's what we get for being honest and following the letter of the law. It seems everything the Dems touch these days goes to punish the law-abiding and honest citizens. Better for them to go after MS13 and the other gangs than to harass people who are doing the right thing.

No more than they have the fire arm card. LOL Does NOTHING to the criminal at all. I can't remember if it was todays paper or not.....they busted a kid for pot, then sure enough, he had a couple hand guns and then rifels and more at home........non of course registered......legal people aren't the problem....but as usual, lets ignore that part.

Interesting you bring this up as this will be my next weapon of choice. I am starting to do the homework on them now. I had a simple one as a kid and LOVED it. My next one will be a cross bow. I'll be damned if those pigs in congress are going to take away MY right to protect my family. It worked for the Native Americans and it can work for me.
