COVID vaccine mandate endangers military readiness, top Republican lawmaker claims

The top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee is calling for the military to immediately drop its mandate that service members be vaccinated against COVID-19, calling it a “politically motivated” decision by the administration.
“At a time when our adversaries continue to increase their quantitative and qualitative advantage against our forces, we should seek to ensure that no policy, even unintentionally, hinders military readiness,” Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday.

This administration will do more damage to the nation’s security than any external threat.”
Inhofe, the former Armed Services Committee chairman, remains an influential voice on Pentagon policy and defense operations even while Democrats control the Senate. His comments are among the strongest yet from Republicans in Congress in opposition to the vaccine mandate.
In his letter to Austin, Inhofe said that mandating that troops and civilian federal defense workers get the vaccine risks the “readiness and morale” of the force and should be immediately suspended.

Last week, Defense Department officials said that roughly 97 percent of active-duty troops are at least partially vaccinated, and just under 84 percent are fully vaccinated.
Even with most military members following the vaccine mandate, Inhofe said he has concerns that the new rule could hurt recruiting and retention.
“Plainly stated, no service member, Department of Defense civilian or contractor supporting the department should be dismissed due to failure to comply with the mandate until the ramifications of mass dismissal are known,” he said.
“With an ever-shrinking candidate pool, hastily executed policies such as this work to further diminish the ability of the Department to tap into the finite resource of people critical to national security.”

Reps. Nunes and Stewart: Biden’s vaccine mandate threatens our national security

America cannot afford a mass purging of experienced intelligence community personnel, let alone all at once
During the presidential campaign, Joe Biden pledged to unify the country and “restore the soul of America.” Instead, over the past ten months, he’s sent a damaging message to the American people: nothing is more important than the Democrat-socialist agenda. Apparently, that includes the security of our nation.
In less than one month, President Biden plans on firing a significant number of intelligence officers who will not comply with his vaccine mandate. This decision-making is beyond partisan – it’s outright dangerous.
For months, President Biden’s excessive mandates have plagued the U.S. economy and individual liberty. As a near record-high number of jobs go unfilled and workers are paid to stay home, thousands of heroic health care workers, police officers, and firefighters are being fired due to the vaccine mandates. For those who don’t find these consequences reason enough to abandon the mandates – although we can’t imagine that’s many people – there’s even worse news: this is now a national security concern.
The Intelligence Community (IC) plans to enforce the vaccine mandate on its employees and contractors. And as is the case with many businesses across the country, those who refuse to get vaccinated will be fired.
The specific details are classified, but the vaccination rate for some agencies is as low as 60 percent. This means that across the IC, a significant number of employees will be dismissed on the same day – December 8.

Biden making ‘grave mistake’ enforcing military vaccine mandate, Republicans warn Lawmakers warn Biden vaccine mandate could weaken military forces

Several Republicans, led by California Rep. Darrell Issa, told President Biden on Tuesday he was committing a “grave mistake” in enforcing a vaccine mandate on all U.S. military personnel.
“Every member of our military is ready to fight for us,” Issa told Fox News. “This is our turn to fight for them and make sure President Biden’s doesn’t destroy tens of thousands of military careers.”
In a letter to the president obtained by Fox News, Issa pleads with the president as a father of a military service member.
“As the father of a major in the Judge Advocate General Corps who honorably served our nation in a foreign combat theater, you can fully and uniquely appreciate the sacrifices that our veterans make for America,” Issa wrote.
The California Republican along with GOP Reps. Ronnie Jackson of Texas, Doug Lamborn of Colorado, Neal Dunn of Florida, and Tracy Mann of Kansas, urged the president not to “punish and expel” all service members who refuse to get the vaccine.
The Department of Defense has reported a 90% vaccination rate, coupled with a 95% vaccination rate among Air Force and Navy service members.
Issa said falling short of a 100% vaccination rate should not be viewed as a shortcoming, but as “perhaps the most successful health utilization program in our nation’s history.”
“As of today, however, tens of thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines are on the brink of being dismissed from service for disagreeing with your mandate or seeking a religious exemption,” the congressmen wrote to the president.
The lawmakers warned that if service members are discharged for their failure to get shots, others have said they too will leave the military.
“There is simply no good reason to charge forward, decline all deliberation and recklessly damage – perhaps irreversibly – our nation’s security and force readiness,” they wrote.

Naval Commander Warns That Military Vaccine Mandate Poses Threat to National Security

    August 30, 2021/by News Editor
By The Vaccine Reaction. A U.S. Naval Commander is warning that the Pentagon’s orders to mandate the COVID-19 vaccination for all service members could be a threat to national security due to unknown effects of vaccine complications. Naval Officer J.H. Furman said that further study is needed before requiring the entire military force, which is comprised of an estimated 1.4 million service men and women be part of an “irreversible experimental group.”
CDR Furman is a naval officer, naval aviator, and foreign area officer with experience advising senior military, diplomatic, and international organization leadership. His memo, which is a little over two pages long, suggests that COVID-19 vaccine mandates are not driven by safety, but by hysteria. He points out that the average military member is young and in good health—both factors of which are not at risk for complications resulting from infection of SARS-CoV-2. CDR Furman also suggests that mRNA technology may have unanticipated long-term effects on the immune system. He writes:
The world is simultaneously learning about this new technology amongst the largest vaccine rollout in human history. The data on both the virus and the vaccines are new and not yet scientifically reliable.1

Naval Commander Warns That Military Vaccine Mandate Poses Threat to National Security

Over the last few weeks, freedom-loving Americans have watched with concern bordering on horror as Joe Biden and his radical administration have used the specter of COVID-19 to impose vaccine mandates on people across the country. We have seen these mandates spread from federal agencies to state and local governments and private businesses, violating the autonomy of citizens to make health decisions with their medical providers. There are numerous problems with this mad dash for universal vaccination (including mounting questions by a growing number of Americans about the efficacy and health risks of these shots), but one of the most significant is the negative impact this mandate madness is guaranteed to have on both national security and public safety.
For starters, the U.S. Armed Forces could see reductions in troop strength and readiness, which would obviously impact our nation’s ability to respond militarily around the world if needed. While the military has long had the flexibility to require active-duty and reserve personnel to receive potentially risky medical treatments (including some that are unavailable to the general public), the federal government has traditionally taken a more targeted approach to requiring such treatments and has avoided the heavy-handed and politicized approach we now see. The Biden administration must be aware that such demands – with short-term deadlines and threats of punishment for our all-volunteer force – will reduce military capacity, decrease trust between military leadership and enlisted personnel, and drive down recruitment. In a world on fire, this seems unwise.
The national security dimensions of vaccine tyranny, however, reach far beyond our military. The Biden administration is now on the verge of firing large swaths of federal law enforcement who are concerned about the health risks of the vaccine or have requested exemptions. The administration’s push is likely going to hit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) fairly hard. DHS is the largest law enforcement agency in the country, employing over 65,000 law enforcement officers, many of whom are protecting our borders, airways, and waterways. There is little in the way of hard data (partly because of the administration’s lack of transparency), but there is reason to believe that Customs and Border Protection alone, which includes the U.S. Border Patrol, could see thousands of departures, which would obviously put a dent in the agency’s capacity to fulfill its core missions.
Joe Biden’s assault on our military and federal law enforcement has trickled down to state and local law enforcement as well. Police officers and other first responders and front-line workers from around the country are being given a terrifying choice: the jab or their job. Many are choosing health freedom over forced vaccination and may ultimately be fired for it. This will cause havoc in most major metropolitan communities, including New York, Chicago, and Baltimore. Extreme situations, like Seattle, could see as much as a 40 percent reduction in their police forces. These potential reductions are both staggering and unprecedented.

The Pentagon is on the offensive after a cascade of Republican lawmakers have pushed back over a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for service members.
Unvaccinated Marines claim COVID mandate ‘purge’ as all religious exemption bids are denied

Marines have claimed in a new report that they are being “crushed” by the Defense Department’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, with the military branch declining to approve a single religious exemption application. . .
One lieutenant colonel told the outlet the Pentagon was looking to discharge members “as fast as they can and as brutally as they can, damaging every Marine as much as they can on the way out.”
The officer claimed they were warned by a colonel: “Tread very carefully, this is political, you will be crushed like an ant.” . . .
A major with over 17 years of active service in the Marines called the vaccine mandate “an unconstitutional edict” that is “targeted as a political purge.”
“The louder I speak, the tighter the screws are turned against me,” a master sergeant also alleged. (Read more from “Unvaccinated Marines Claim COVID Mandate ‘Purge’ as All Religious Exemption Bids Are Denied”
“The louder I speak, the tighter the screws are turned against me,” a master sergeant also alleged.
As of last week, 169 Marines had been discharged from service for refusing the vaccine. Members of the Corps had until Nov. 28 to get at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose unless they filed for an exemption.
In late November, the Marine Corps reported that 5 percent of its 180,000-strong active-duty force were unvaccinated at the deadline, a total of approximately 9,000.
As of Dec. 23, 3,192 religious exemption requests have been made and 3,080 have been processed and denied, Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Ryan Bruce told The Post.
While Marines are allowed to apply for such considerations, Bruce said that “no religious accommodations have been approved for any other vaccine in the past seven years.”
Some Marines who spoke with Fox News claimed their religious exemption applications have been declined without consideration. Eight rejection letters provided to the outlet cited “military readiness” as the reason behind the denial.
A Marine spokesperson said that 3,192 religious exemption requests have been made and 3,080 have been processed and denied.
Others claimed that some Marines have submitted up to 30 pages of material to back up their application, only to receive a generalized rejection.
“On the religious side, this is absolutely a travesty what’s happening,” a chief warrant officer said. “People are getting blanket denials, they’re not addressing the individual concerns or beliefs of Marines who are submitting for religious accommodations, and I think that’s just horribly wrong. I honestly believe that they’re not really reading the packages.”
The Marine Corps says that the requests are done on a case-by-case basis “to ensure Marines receive due consideration,” according to Bruce. The process includes evaluations from a three-member Religious Accommodation Review Board, health services and legal experts.
A provision in the recently enacted annual defense bill ensures that service members who refuse the vaccine receive either an honorable or general discharge. However, some Marines who spoke to Fox fear they will face a court-martial, a claim Bruce denied Wednesday.
“If the sole basis for judicial action is refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine, that process [will] be handled administratively and will not rise to the level of a court-martial proceeding,” the spokesman said.
“The Marine Corps has always recognized the threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic as a readiness issue, which is why we have consistently emphasized the importance of receiving the vaccine,” Bruce added. “We are still ready to fight and win our nation’s battles should we be called.”

FULLY VACCINATED NAVY COMBAT SHIP OUT OF COMMISSION FROM MASS INFECTION U.S. Navy warship remains in port after COVID-19 breaks out among ’100% immunized’ crew

The U.S. Navy claimed ‘the vaccine continues to demonstrate effectiveness against serious illness’
A U.S. Navy warship held off on deploying to South America last week after an outbreak of COVID-19 among its vaccinated crew.
USS Milwaukee, a littoral combat ship, remained in port at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay following positive tests from some of its sailors, some of whom exhibited mild symptoms, according to a Friday announcement from the U.S. Navy.
The Navy had set Nov. 28 as the deadline for all service members to receive vaccination against COVID-19. More than 98% of all active-duty sailors have been fully vaccinated, according to the most recent data.
The first major outbreak of COVID-19 among members of the military was in early 2020, when the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt had to stay in Guam for about two months after more than 1,000 of its 4,800-member crew tested positive. One sailor on the ship died from the disease.

USS Theodore Roosevelt coronavirus outbreak: Navy failed to follow protocols, watchdog says

The report revealed that findings from outbreaks onboard both the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Kidd were used to strengthen the health and safety protocols for all Navy ships throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The Roosevelt’s Capt. Brett Crozier was ousted from his position shortly after the outbreak on the San Diego-based ship that was docked in Guam at the time, after sounding the alarm about the need to offload sailors from the ship due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Crozier was fired by Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly after Crozier wrote a letter warning that the outbreak had created a dire situation on the carrier and urged that the nearly 5,000 sailors on board be evacuated. The letter was later leaked to the press.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden signed the National Defense Authorization Act into law Monday, authorizing $768.2 billion in military spending, including a 2.7% pay raise for service members, for 2022. Published December 27, 2021

    *****************
The NDAA authorizes a 5% increase in military spending, and is the product of intense negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over issues ranging from reforms of the military justice system to COVID-19 vaccine requirements for soldiers.
The new bill passed earlier this month with bipartisan support, with Democrats and Republicans touting wins in the final package.
Democrats applauded provisions in the bill overhauling how the military justice system handles sexual assault and other related crimes, effectively taking prosecutorial jurisdiction over such crimes out of the hands of military commanders.
Republicans, meanwhile, touted success in blocking an effort to add women to the draft, as well as the inclusion of a provision that bars dishonorable discharges for service members who refuse the COVID-19 vaccine.
    ******************

“The Act provides vital benefits and enhances access to justice for military personnel and their families, and includes critical authorities to support our country’s national defense,” Biden said in a statement.
The $768.2 billion price tag marks $25 billion more than Biden initially requested from Congress, a prior proposal that was rejected by members of both parties out of concerns it would undermine U.S. efforts to keep pace militarily with China and Russia.
The bill includes $7.1 billion for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative and a statement of congressional support for the defense of Taiwan, measures intended to counteract China’s influence in the region.
It also includes $300 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, a show of support in the face of Russian aggression, as well as $4 billion for the European Defense Initiative.
In his statement, the president also outlined a number of provisions his administration opposes over what he characterized as “constitutional concerns or questions of construction.”
Those planks include provisions that restrict the use of funds to transfer or release individuals detained at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, which the Biden administration is moving to close. Biden’s statement said the provisions “unduly impair” the executive branch’s ability to decide when and where to prosecute detainees and where to send them when they’re released, and could constrain U.S. negotiations with foreign countries over the transfer of detainees in a way that could undermine national security.
The law also has provisions barring goods produced by forced Uyghur labor in China from entering the U.S., and it begins to lay out plans for the new Global War on Terror Memorial, which would be the latest addition to the National Mall.

Biden signs $768B defense bill, complains it won’t let him close Gitmo

President Biden on Monday signed a $768 billion defense spending bill that includes funds for a 2.7 percent pay raise for the troops — but lamented that it did not provide money to remove terror detainees from Guantánamo Bay.
Top Democrats have long advocated for the closure of the military prison at the US Navy base in Cuba, a drive that has been met with sharp pushback from Republicans.
In a statement, Biden argued that two sections of the bill barring the use of federal funds to transfer detainees to certain foreign nations or the US unless specific conditions are met “unduly impair the ability of the executive branch to determine when and where to prosecute Guantánamo Bay detainees and where to send them upon release.
“In some circumstances these provisions could make it difficult to comply with the final judgment of a court that has directed the release of a detainee on a writ of habeas corpus,” added the president, who urged Congress to “eliminate these restrictions as soon as possible.”
The president also took issue with provisions in the bill requiring reports on the amount of US military equipment destroyed during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, as well as the threat posed by Iran-backed militias in the Middle East.
Biden complained that such reports “will, in the ordinary course, include highly sensitive classified information, including information that could reveal critical intelligence sources or military operational plans.”
About 96 percent of the massive funding is allocated to Department of Defense programs
However, he promised to provide the information “with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters. I believe the Congress shares this understanding.”
The sprawling plan, which includes $25 billion more than the White House had requested for defense spending, passed the Senate by a vote of 89-10 on Dec. 15. A week earlier, it had passed the House by 363-70.
The bulk of the funds — 96 percent — are allocated to Department of Defense programs with another $27.8 billion allocated for Department of Energy national security programs and the remaining $378 million for additional defense-related matters.
The legislation also provides $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative to assist Kiev in acquiring the resources needed to counter Russia’s troop buildup on its eastern border.

Congress drops language letting military draft women from defense bill

Lawmakers have pulled a requirement that women register for the military draft from the final version of the annual defense bill, which was unveiled Tuesday.
The omission of the provision is a win for conservative Republicans like Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, who had slammed the proposal as “[t]otal, complete bulls—” on social media back in September.
Politico first reported that the language would be dropped from the bill.
The language requiring women to register for the draft was included in an initial version of the bill, which passed the House in September.
While prominent conservatives pushed back against the inclusion of the provision, a number of leading Republicans — including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a military veteran — supported the move.
