MINTA GARCIA SAYS "STOP THE FORECLOSURES!"

MINTA GARCIA SAYS "STOP THE FORECLOSURES!"

Should the tax payer bailout Minta Garcia?

Is she just another hard working citizen who needs help like so many others or is she the poster child for greedy, irresponsible homeowners who have no one but themselves to blame for the mess they are in?

Back in mid February Minta Gracia and her family were featured in a CNN segment as an examples of families in jeopardy of losing their homes in the mortgage meltdown crisis. Her $800,000 house bought three years ago is only worth $675,000 now. She wants the government (the tax payer) to step in and bail her out.

Trouble is she is a school bus driver with a school bus driver income with two kids and a husband who seems to have bought way over her head. Her husband is a "construction worker". Both are squarely in blue collar income territory. How could anyone with those income levels afford an $800,000 home?

Now there is a nationwide backlash on Minta. She is being used as a perfect example of who should not get help. Conservative talk radio is up in arms for example.

Googling "Minta Garcia" will give you a taste of the backlash from bloggers and the like.

Keep in mind as you watch these videos that the bank will begin foreclosure proceedings only if you default on your loan, not because your home's value drops below your mortgage's value.

Here is the original CNN video about Minta and her foreclose problem.

Here is CNN's follow up visit to Minta concerning the backlash.

What do you think? Should Minta be bailed out? What are the stipulations in the mortgage bailout? Obama says "irresponsible home owners" will not be bailed out. Well what does that mean? Who should get it and who should not?

Let's don't forget that the banks didn't have to cave into Barney Frank and the rest of the Dems who wanted the American dream to open up to more people. Sure they were being pressured by the govenment, but there was no law that the banks had to abide by on this. As for the ignorant homebuyers, if they couldn't do the math and know they couldn't afford what they were buying, they got what they deserved..but the banks didn't. I say the banks shouldn't have been given any bailout and they should have been left to the buzzards. It's their own fault for caving into political pressure when they weren't breaking any laws.
