TRENTON -- A Superior Court judge on Monday kept the bail at $50,000 for a Liberian immigrant accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

George Zinnah, 22, allegedly had sexual intercourse with the underage girl in April or May, Assistant Prosecutor Randolph Norris said.

Diane Lyons, Zinnah's defense lawyer, told Superior Court Judge Thomas Kelly that Zinnah was living in Trenton with the girl's family, who are from the same village in Liberia. Zinnah, who denies he had sexual relations with the girl, had a dispute with the girl's family over charges to his telephone prior to the allegation, said Lyons.

Zinnah is employed as a food service aide at a nursing home and his girlfriend -- who is not the 13-year-old child -- is expecting his child, Lyons said in asking the judge to reduce Zinnah's bail.

But Kelly said $50,000 is low bail for a sex assault charge. He also ordered Zinnah to have no contact with the victim if released.
