Moderate quake hits Alaska's Aleutian Islands

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A moderate earthquake was recorded Friday morning off Alaska's remote Aleutian Islands, but a tsunami was not expected to be generated.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says there were no immediate reports of it being felt or of damage.

The earthquake was recorded at 10:37 a.m. AKDT, at a depth of 10 miles. The epicenter was about 110 miles southwest of the fishing port of Dutch Harbor.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center put the preliminary magnitude at 5.0, but the U.S. Geological Survey had it at 6.2.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, didn't expect it to generate a tsunami but was monitoring the situation.
