Still Clinging to Guns and God

Just think about it for a moment. You and I make up about the only class of people in the United States that can be ridiculed, maligned, misquoted, threatened, denied, and dammed by the secular left with impunity. In addition, we are the only class of people who can have those misrepresentations of our character and actions celebrated by a vast number of our fellow Americans.

Who are we? First and foremost we are hard working American taxpayers who believe in and have attempted to live our lives in a manner that supports and defends the Constitution. We are storeowners and clerks. We are fire fighters and police officers. We are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines. We are white-collar and blue-collar workers. We are business people and farmers. We are proud to be known as patriots. We believe in limited representative government. We salute the American Flag. We answer the call of our country whenever it is in peril.

We hold fast to the Bill of Rights and defend each one, particularly the First and Second Amendments. States rights are also very important to us and we reside in states that defend the rights of citizens who live within those boundaries.

Though we are different in many ways, we are much the same. Liberal voices everywhere single us out for scorn. They attack us because we are old and drain them of too many resources. They slander the men among us whose skin is white. They smear others of us because we are not black enough...or brown enough...or red enough...or yellow enough...or young enough.... or woman enough...or ethnic enough.

When we peacefully assemble to voice our concerns, we are labeled as the radical right. We become the hateful and feared extremists. Voices of rage against our protestations of unconstitutional acts scream out from radio, television, newspapers, our elected officials and even from the Oval Office.

When we march, they characterize us as attempting to riot. They express their "fear" of looming violence taking place because we are voicing our anger at draconian rule.

The ongoing theme of this opposition force is belittlement. Every gesture and word coming from those we oppose is tailored to marginalize the things we say and do in an attempt to protest a government we believe is poisoning our nation.

In a country where 86% of the people believe "In God We Trust" should remain on our currency and coin, we are told this is no longer a Christian nation. In a land where 80% of the population expresses a strong belief in a Higher Power, we are told our national government should remain devoid of any Faith. In a world that is filled with turmoil and pain, we are told that we should understand and show respect for all other religions, but never display or proclaim our own belief.

It matters not if we attend a town hall meeting, visit a political office, hold a Tea Party event or join together marching in massive numbers in cities and towns across the country, we are reported as being unimportant voices making inconsequential demands of those in power.

The strange thing is, even though we are ignored, belittled or despised... our voices grow stronger. Even though they try to eradicate symbols of our Faith from this land, be they the Star of David or the Cross of Christ, those markers of our belief remain proudly standing. Most of all, even though we have been strongly mocked by even the President of the United States of America... we still insist that our voices be heard, and we continue to cling to Our Guns...and our God.
