ColorLines: The Roots of the GOPs Birth Citizenship Mania

Republican leaders have spent the last couple of weeks reigniting a 140-year-old constitutional debate: Whether the 14th Amendment should grant citizenship to everyone born inside United States territory. South Carolina’s Sen. Lindsay Graham, who was once considered an immigration ally for Democrats, demanded Senate hearings on the matter first, and party leaders have eagerly chimed in with support.

The most recent GOP big to pile on is House Minority Leader John Boehner, who would likely become speaker if the GOP wins in November. He told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday,

I think that there is a problem. To provide an incentive for illegal immigrants to come here so that their children can be U.S. citizens does in fact draw more people to our country. I do think that it’s time to secure our borders and enforce the law, and to allow this conversation about the 14th Amendment to continue.
So what, exactly, is the “conversationâ€

So...once again we have the uninformed liberal or MSM press weighing in on subjects they don't understand. AT least we are making progress.

I think Goode did a pretty thorough qualified job discussing the issue though I come to the opposite conclusion.

Victor Goode, Associate Professor, earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from Rutgers Law School. He has practiced in the areas of affirmative action, housing, and other civil rights issues. Before joining the Law School faculty, he served as Executive Director of the National Conference of Black Lawyers, founded the Affirmative Action Coordinating Center, worked as part of the legal team that filed amicus briefs in three landmark affirmative action cases (Bakke, Weber, and Fullilove), and taught in the Urban Legal Studies Program at the City College of New York. He has served continuously at the Law School since 1983-as Professor of Law and as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs-except for two years as Visiting Professor at Columbia University Law School, where he taught in the Fair Housing Clinic and assisted in the introduction of computer-assisted course material for the Clinic.

He has lectured widely on teaching professional skills and values, and has given Congressional testimony on police misconduct and racially-motivated violence. His many organizational affiliations have included the Society of American Law Teachers, the Northeast Regional BLSA Job Fair, and, most recently, the New York City Open Housing Center. He teaches a variety of first-year courses and has also taught Housing Discrimination Law, and a Race and the Law seminar.

In other words his entire career and livelihood is based on finding racism, including where it may not exist.

No need for unnecessary obtuseness Mr Bowman. The article was written rather well but he comes to the wrong conclusion, just because he comes to the wrong conclusion is not a reason to dismiss the quality of the article .
