LAGOS, Nigeria — A spokeswoman for Nigeria's secret police tells The Associated Press that agents have intercepted an illegal arms shipment of "grenades, explosives and mortars" at Lagos' largest shipping port.

Marilyn Ogar, a spokeswoman for the State Security Service, said Tuesday that agents have only gone through a few cartons within the shipping container. She says the agency believes there may also be rocket launchers inside the container.

Ogar declined to identify the ship or say where the shipment was going. She says the container's manifest said it contained "building materials."

The discovery comes after a militant group in the country's oil-rich southern delta claimed responsibility for a car bombing Oct. 1 that killed at least 12 people.
