What kind of government might we expect under a President Barack Obama administration?

If the candidate's rhetoric is any indication, his priorities might be in line with those of the totalitarians in Beijing.

For weeks now, right up to and including his recent interview with Bill O'Reilly, Obama has been singing the praises of China and its achievements in building a world-class infrastructure.

In Ohio, a few days ago, Obama noted the impressive show China put on for the world during the Olympics – including new ports and trains used by international visitors.

"Why aren't we putting people back to work rebuilding our infrastructure?" he asked.

During the Games, Obama observed: "Everybody's watching what's going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics. Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business, you're starting to think, 'Beijing looks like a pretty good option.'"

    (Column continues below)

This is a recurring theme in Obama's campaign: We need to be more like China.

Of course, it shouldn't even need to be stated, but obviously it does (since no one else appears to be challenging Obama's juvenile assumptions): China has a tyrannical, socialist government that has no respect for private property or even the most basic freedoms.

Does Obama realize how those infrastructures were built? Is he aware of the forced labor, the seizures of land, the diversion of water, the deliberate flooding of homes, the lack of concern about pollution and safety of workers, the fact that Beijing was made a showpiece for the world at the expense of a ravaged countryside?

Is Obama aware of the massive power outages that crippled the country a month before the Olympics? Is he aware that blackouts and power rationing are still the rule through much of the country's heartland? Is he aware the nation is facing its biggest energy crisis since 2004?

Is Obama aware of the massive train failures that took place across the country last January?

Is Obama aware of the riots that hit China's airports in July when its vaunted system broke down?

Is Obama aware of the fact that thousands of Chinese farmers were deprived of water this summer so Olympic tourists in Beijing would have a pleasant experience?

There's no good answer to these questions.

The charitable assumption would be that he is naïve. But the fact that one of the two leading candidates for the presidency could be so clueless about America's chief foreign rival and competitor in the world is more than a little scary.

The other assumption is that he does understand these simple and well-documented facts about China. And that's even scarier.

That means Obama truly admires one of the world's most fearsome police states and the way it gets things done.

There were people like Obama back in the 1930s. They had great admiration for another emerging dictatorship – Benito Mussolini's Italy. They marveled at how this strongman made the trains run on time.

Of course, it wasn't true of Mussolini's fascist Italy any more than it is true of fascist China today.

But Mussolini had his admirers. It might surprise Americans today to learn there weren't any "right-wingers" among them. They were all socialists and liberals. That's who formed the Mussolini fan club back then, and it appears not much has changed today. Fascist China has a strong fan club among America's liberals and socialists.

And the president of that fan club is bidding to become president of the United States.

Obama is a lunatic. Almost nothing is on time in China! Plus the air pollution and other toxics greatly shorten your life span.

But they do have beheadings for corrupt government officials, we really should adopt that here!
