Infamous FEMA trailers headed to eastern Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- Federal officials say there are 40 manufactured homes on their way to Cedar Rapids to help with housing needs after widespread flooding last month.

Federal Emergency Management Agency director David Paulison says the homes are en route from Arkansas and should arrive in eastern Iowa by the end of the week.

Cedar Rapids officials have asked for 500 trailer homes to be sent within 30 days to help fill a serious housing shortage. It was caused by the displacement of 25,000 Linn County residents affected by flooding.

Paulison announced the manufactured homes were on their way to Iowa during a telephone call this week with Sen. Tom Harkin.
