In the days following President Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, the broadcast networks were "in a total celebratory mode," devoting the majority of their coverage to the judge's persona with "much less discussion of her judicial philosophy" and actual record on the court, according to Rich Noyes, director of research at the Media Research Center.
"As the week wore on, you ended up with the media much more upset at the rhetoric of say Rush Limbaugh or Newt Gingrich in talking about the judge ... than about the judge's own rhetoric, when she's the one who's actually up for the nomination, not these conservative talking heads," he continued.
Noyes spoke with Greg Corombos of Radio America/WND. The audio of the exchange is embedded here:

Noyes contends liberal interest groups that opposed the nominations of John Roberts and Sam Alito "were never put on the defensive."
"Barack Obama has been given a big pat on the back by the media, George Bush was always seen as playing to his right-wing base.
"It was a much more devisive presentation that the media gave back in 2005."
