New poll finds Congress less popular than lice, cockroaches, and Nickelback
Robert Laurie (Bio and Archives) Wednesday, January 9, 2013
How do you know when you’re unpopular? Well, if you’re the United States Congress, you look at the polls. Public Policy Polling (PPP) is a notoriously slanted pollster - one that works solely for the Democrat Party and left-wing organizations - but every once in a while they come up with something interesting.
Currently, the pollster finds that Congress has a dismal 9% favorability rating. If you’re conservative, you believe this has something to do with its ceaseless desire to limit your rights and shred the Constitution. If you’re a liberal, you probably think it’s because lawmakers aren’t banning stuff fast enough. Whatever the reason, no one seems to like the legislature very much.
However, it’s tough to know just what 9% means in the real world, so PPP decided to poll Congressional popularity as it relates to various other, similarly unpopular, things. The results are impressive.
Here’s a list of things people prefer to their elected officials.
- Lice 69% to 19%
- Brussels Sprouts 69% to 23%
- NFL Replacement Refs 56% to 29%
- Colonoscopies 58% to 31%
- Root Canals 56% to 32%
- France 46% to 37%
- Used Car Salesmen 57% to 32%
- Carnies 39% to 31%
- Traffic Jams 56% to 34%
- Nickelback 39% to 32%
- Genghis Khan 41% to 37%
- Donald Trump 44% to 42%
Finally, the writers of CainTV can rest easy, knowing that the American people prefer political pundits to Congress by a margin of 37% to 34%. That may not be great, but at least it means we’re more popular than the people we write about.
The good news for Congress is that there are still a few areas where it has the upper hand.
Not only does it enjoy It also enjoys double digit leads over Meth Labs and Gonorrhea, but it managed to outperform Lindsay Lohan by 4%, the Kardashians by 10% and Fidel Castro by 22%.
To find out how Congress does against John Edwards and North Korea, check the complete findings here.

Congress Is Less Popular than Cockroaches, Lice, Root Canals, Colonoscopies, Traffic Jams, Used Car Salesmen or Genghis Khan

… Or Communism, BP during the Gulf Oil Spill, Nixon During Watergate or King George During the American Revolution
We’ve previously noted that Congress is less popular among Americans than Communism, BP during the Gulf oil spill, Nixon during Watergate or King George during the American Revolution.
Public Policy Polling has a new poll out showing that Congress is less popular than:
- Cockroaches
- Lice
- Root Canals
- Colonoscopies
- Traffic Jams
- Used Car Salesmen
- or Genghis Khan
The poll did not examine whether – as in China – politicians are viewed as less trustworthy than prostitutes.
But given that regulators sleep with industry-bought prostitutes, it is hard to tell where one ends and the other starts.
Postscript: Obviously, my comparison of politicians with prostitutes is offensive, hyperbole, incorrect, and unfair. We extend a sincere apology … to the hard-working “professional” women.
Politicians are not prostitutes … they are – in fact – pimps.
