INDIANAPOLIS - A leading supplier of toiletries for hotels and resorts said Monday it was recalling worldwide complimentary tubes of toothpaste made in China after tests showed some may contain a potentially toxic chemical.

It was the latest in a series of recalls of Chinese-made goods — toothpaste, children’s toys, tires and pet food — because of shoddy and perhaps dangerous manufacturing methods.

Gilchrist & Soames is recalling its 18-milliliter or 0.65-ounce tubes with the name Gilchrist & Soames on it. The company said Monday that some samples showed the tubes contained diethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze and can be toxic to the kidneys and liver.

“They’re just kind of the little complimentary size you get in the hotels, and it’s branded Gilchrist & Soames,â€

Wow anything else thats bad coming out of China?
We opened our market up to substandard products? And of what to save some pennies? What a crock of ____ I don't think I'd buy anything from China anymore! Toys, toothpaste, food, what else?

We need to embargo trade with them ASAP or a boycott might be in order!

Lets dump all China products into the Pacific Ocean in terms of a protest!

I am beginning to think the decision to move offshore had less to do with labor costs or even taxes and more to do with being able to possibly get away with dangerous manufacturing.

These companies can sort of hide behind their 'manufacturers' on this. If these were made stateside, we wouldn't allow it.

Also, I think it is so we would be willing to accept shoddy merchandise. We wouldn't tolerate such trash with a 'made in America' lable on it.

NN, the offshore decisions by corps actually has allot to do with labor costs and taxes, and in part, Americans have to share some of the blame. For over the last three decades, our consumption of goods has drastically gone up because the US has had more disposable income. We all love to have our cheap and inexpensive goods, so in order to meet up with the demand, corps moved to other countries that have far less legislation overseeing production. Look at what mexican people make at salaries. We've all read that many of them come here for jobs because they can't make enough to live on, and yet we've moved many jobs to mexico.
Corps do have to take the majority of the blame for just simple greed. They know with lower (or no taxes) taxes, labor costs, etc. they can increase their profit margins. As we all know, this has also allowed big business CEO's and executive members to have their 600% annual increases, big bonuses, etc. while the average American worker is lucky to see a 3% increase.
In a nutshell, it's all about the money.
