The number of people shot over Labor Day weekend in New York has risen to 39, with the latest incident near where Mayor Bloomberg was marching today.
Previously 24 people had been shot in the 24 hours from 6 am Saturday to 6 am Sunday, leading to calls from Bloomberg for tighter gun control laws after the 'unconscionable' spree.
The victims were shot during 14 separate incidents, and so far no arrests have been made.
Outraged: Mayor Bloomberg called the shootings 'unconscionable'
The latest shooting took place today near Brooklyn's West Indian Day Parade - not far from where Bloomberg was marching.
Just before 12 a man opened fire but did not hit any one.
He was eventually run diown by police after escaping in a taxi and dumping the weapon
Speaking to the New York Daily News, Charles Walters, 53 - who's 11-year-old son was one of the victims on Sunday - said: 'These people come with guns and shoot at anyone.
'They don't care if there are children around.'

Police were said to be hunting suspect 17-year-old Oneil Dasilva in connection with the incident.
The spate of shootings left Bloomberg raging yesterday, with the Mayor calling on politicians in Washington to enact stricter gun laws.
Speaking at the Christian Cultural Centre in Brooklyn yesterday he said: 'It is just unconscionable. We cannot tolerate it.
'There are just too many guns on the streets and we have to do something about it.
'We need the federal government to step up.Both ends of Pennsylvania Ave., both sides of the aisle.'
Mayor Bloom berg is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and has rallied Washington for tighter gun laws in the past.
He added: 'We cannot continue to have these guns in the hands of kids who don't understand the value of life.'
The weekend's shootings began at around 6 am on Saturday when a 35-year-old woman was wounded in Brooklyn.
At 2 am yesterday a 30-year-old died from bullet wounds to the head and back in Flatbush.
Between 2:12 am and 2:30 am on Sunday five men were shot in three seperate incidents.

Bloomberg you are an idiot. I would gamble to say the shootings like that were done BY CRIMINALS. And the criminals will always have the guns. No citizen can stop any of this since they are restricted from owning a gun in the city.thanks to Bloomberg

Witnesses said the unidentified gunman got out of the car at E. 94th and Winthrop streets, and then ran off after tossing his gun. Cops caught him down the street after Macing him.

As YWN publishes this article at 5:00PM , there has been two other shooting incidents – one of them at the parade. The first ahooting was on President Street and Franklin Avenue, with a person shot in the leg. The shooting at the parade was on Eastern Parkway and Rogers Avenue, with a person shot in the leg.
UPDATE From NBC New York 6:15PM EST: Three men shot in broad daylight along a parade route in Brooklyn Monday were among more than 40 injured by gunfire during a Labor Day weekend of violence.

Three men shot in broad daylight along a parade route in Brooklyn Monday were among more than 40 injured by gunfire during a Labor Day weekend of violence.
The latest violence came Monday evening when police say a NYPD officer was shot in the arm. Several other civilians were believed to have been shot along Park Place in the Prospect Heights neighborhood.
Earlier in the afternoon, police said two men were shot -- one in the leg, and one in the stomach -- along the West Indian Day Parade on Eastern Parkway. Police chased the suspect, who fled on foot. The suspect remains at large.
A third victim was shot in the leg later in the afternoon.
The victims were brought to Kings County Hospital.
Since Saturday morning, there have been at least 42 people shot in the city, with one fatality.
Four men were shot at a barbecue in East Flatbush early Monday morning; 17-year-old Tyrief Gary was shot in the chest and killed.
At the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn Sunday morning, Mayor Bloomberg spoke out against the incidents over the weekend, which at that point was at 25.
"There are just too many guns on the streets and we have to do something about it," he said, and urged for more federal control and stricter gun control laws across the country.

Almost 50 shot in violence-filled weekend in New York
September 6, 2011 | 7:41am
After a bloody holiday weekend that left dozens shot in New York City -- including two police officers and at least one innocent victim who died of her wounds -- Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on Tuesday lashed out at lawmakers in Washington for not doing enough to get illegal guns off the nation's streets.
"It is a matter of life and death," Bloomberg said while standing outside a Brooklyn hospital about 1:30 a.m. as the two police officers were being treated. Neither suffered life-threatening injuries but three other people died in the incident. They included the shooter, who was shot by police; the shooter's target; and a 56-year-old woman hit by a stray bullet as she sat with her daughter on her apartment building's stoop, police said.
The shootings occurred a few blocks from an annual parade celebrating Caribbean culture, where earlier in the day at least other four people suffered gunshot wounds.
Also over the weekend, an early Sunday shooting at party in the Bronx left eight people wounded, and four people were shot early Monday in Brooklyn. Altogether, 46 people were shot in various parts of the city during the long weekend, according to the New York Post.
New York state has some of the country's strictest laws governing the purchase and carrying of guns, something Bloomberg said has helped reduce crime in the nation's largest city. "But we cannot do it alone," he said. "This is a national problem requiring national leadership, but at the moment neither end of Pennsylvania Avenue has the courage to take basic steps that would save lives."
According to the FBI's latest crime statistics, firearms were used in 67.1% of the nation's murders and 42.6 percent of robberies.

Actually he needs to address the issue of citizens being able to carry in the city. I think he would find the crime drop. But he is more bent on taking liberties away from the citizens and the final ruling from the Supreme Court has protected our rights and Bloomberg and the City of Chicago go against the Supreme Courts Rulings on the Second Amendment for all citizens in this nation. They have denied their citizens their rights in CCP
