Stress takes toll on Obama, develops chronic facial tic

Do you think maybe he's stressed out because he knows that he is not eligible to be president?

Stress takes toll on Obama, develops chronic facial tic
Michelle said to be distraught over spasms under right eye

The strain of the long campaign and a frenetic transition period is beginning to wear on the face of President-elect Barack Obama, who has developed a facial tic under his right eye.

The tic on the lower part of his right orbital bone is clearly visible in his recent interview with ABC's Barbara Walters. Campaign insiders say it first emerged during the primary season and has now become chronic.

A facial tic is a repetitive, spasmodic movement often involving the eyes and facial muscles. The cause of tics is unknown, but stress appears to increase their severity.

"The patients I've treated with tic disorders had one thing in common: They knew that the tics worsened when they were under stress," said Dr. Robert T. London, a psychiatrist with the New York University Medical Center.

Besides the economic crisis, Obama is having to worry about his own security. The Secret Service reportedly is dealing with more threats against him than any other president-elect in history.

"There are a lot of things that keep me up at night," Obama, 47, confided in the ABC interview.

Michelle Obama, who closely monitors her husband's public appearances, is said to be distraught over the facial tic.

In all the stress of the transition, Obama told ABC he's trying to eat healthy food, work out regularly and refrain from smoking, although he has found it difficult to quit cigarettes entirely.

London says studies show that simple tics disappear during sleep, which suggests that a relaxation treatment, such as hypnotherapy, might work better than medication to calm the misfiring nerves during the day.

Politics is a stressful job, and other politicians have succumbed to the nervous twitches. For example, Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., developed a severe facial tic that became so chronic he began doing TV interviews with the afflicted side of his face angled away from the camera. Shays, who's served more than 20 years in Congress, was defeated in the November election.

No, I don't think that's the reason. Facial tics and twitching muscles are extremely common. I get little ones in my eyelid. Warm compresses, massage, ignoring them all work, and I suppose if it gets really bad there's always botox.

The result of going cold turkey after years of unbridled drug abuse. But he and others in D.C. can rely on the drug cartels to replenish their personal supply through our open borders. And people thought our borders remained open only for cheap labor and illegal votes which explains the nonsensical decisions and policies emanating from the morons in power.

Can you give a source for "years of unbridled drug abuse?"
Let's not go nuts here with accusations to destroy anyone's reputation. People get tics, even those that have never touched drugs, which are nothing more than muscle spasms.

Well vortex didn't you pay any attention to various media newscasts, publications and Obama's books where he admitted to heroin and cocaine use while at Harvard and other institutions. But it sounds as if you are an unabashed supporter of Obama and either don't know the facts or like many of his supporters refuse to acknowledge them.
I for one don't place any faith in a media that never properly vetted him because they were in bed with Obama or their anteriors were in Obama's posterior and were more concerned with Palin's daughter than they were with Obama's connections to questionable associates or millions of dollars in questionable campaign contributions from shady sources who he
refused to reveal including an alleged 35,000 dollar campaign from the PLO and his links to the corrupt Chicago political machine involving Reszko, Mayor Daley and others.(MOD EDIT)

I think he cut out the drug use a few years back, but just recently stopped smoking. I bet he starts smoking again.

There's that stress syndrome called Bells Palsy. One eye droops and one side of the mouth droops. It can stay for awhile. It's quite debilitating if you work with the public.

Well, apparently you are not capable of any sort of debate, raf, without falling into a sewer of insults along the way about a person you know nothing about, especially politically, who happens to disagree with your rants. And you still haven't answered my original question about the source(s) of unbridled drug use.

I get a twitch under my eye when I'm stressed. I get very self conscience about it because I am afraid someone will think I am winking at them. There is goes again.
