A Jamaican citizen guilty of possessing nearly 1,700 pounds of marijuana stored at a Tolleson warehouse was sentenced this week to more than eight years in federal prison.

Uriah Anthony Walker, also known as George Lake, pleaded guilty in March to a charge of conspiring to possess more than 100 kilograms of marijuana with intent to distribute. His sentence, handed down Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, also includes $12,500 fine.

A Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation caught Walker in October 2005.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Arizona, Walker controlled a warehouse in Tolleson, where the marijuana was kept. He reportedly arranged to transport the drugs to Virginia. A source cooperating with ICE agreed to make the delivery.

The Attorney's Office said Walker and unidentified people loaded the marijuana, hidden among pallets loaded with cooler chests. The vehicle was turned over to ICE, which arrested Walker in June 2007.
