Thread: Norway - Original immigrants on welfare

Half of the first immigrants to Norway in the first half of the 1970s are now living on state payments.

The figure comes from a new study by the Frisch Center for Socio-economic Research and is supported by the University of Oslo, newspaper Dagens Næringsliv reports.

The study focused on 2,500 immigrants from Pakistan, India, Turkey and Morocco born between 1936 and 1955, and compared with a control group of Norwegians of the same age.

In their first ten years the immigrants were actively employed, and as many were employed as Norwegians. But after this period their activity declined sharply, and by 2000 half of the immigrants were unemployed, compared to 13 percent of their Norwegian peers.

Of the unemployed immigrants, 74 percent were on disability payments and 17 percent were receiving other types of welfare compensation.

"I was surprised by how great the fall was, and how many immigrants who are caught up in various forms of welfare benefits. These are people who came here to work, not to flee from war and persecution," said Knut Røed, one of the authors of the study.

There are two main theories for why so many immigrants are no longer employed. One is that immigrants are far more vulnerable than Norwegians to unemployment during hard times and the other is that it pays to be on welfare.

"It is especially people who have poorly paid jobs, wives who don't work and many children that can profit by getting disability pay," said researcher Oddbjørn Raum.

This is disturbing to me. I'm already learning Norwegian so it can be my escape country. I"m going to be ticked if it has the same problems we do - is there no country with balls on this planet?! SHEESH!

Don't be thinking about escaping to any European country. I have family there and I can say for sure that they are being conquered through demographics by Muslims, much the same way the Southwest here is being taken over by illegals from south of the border. Australia or New Zealand would be a better bet.

Australia's having a problem with greatly increased crime since they
confiscated the citizens weapons. They are in accordance with the
UN ban on firearms and are now completely helpless to defend themselves.

That much is true; however, Europeans are in the same boat. Heck, even the cops in the UK don't carry guns. Of course, in the UK they build prison cells with toilets facing Mecca to please Muslims.

Australia is a lot less PC when it comes to radical Islam. Not a lot of speeches about how Islam is a religion of peace from their Prime Minister. The government there has made it clear that if Muslims want Sharia Law and do not appreciate Australian values, they need to move along. They encourage assimilation there more than Europe, which has tended to favor multiculturalism (which is now backfiring).

I am mostly comparing Australia with Europe and not the US. Europeans are falling all over themselves to avoid "offending" the sensibilities of Muslims. I believe that Australia actually enforces its immigration laws without apology; although some European countries are starting to severely restrict immigration. However, it might already be too late for them.

Thus, I would advise someone who was considering emigrating to choose Australia over Europe.
