Obama Deploys Laser Guided Bombs on the Islamic State

Obama Deploys Laser Guided Bombs on the Islamic State

    Published on: August 9, 2014

As the weekend begins Barack Obama, sent two F/A-18s into Iraq carrying 500-pound laser-guided bombs which were deployed against Kurdish forces near Erbil.
    According to the Washington Post:
“At approximately 6:45 a.m. EDT, the U.S. military conducted a targeted airstrike against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists,” Rear Adm. John Kirby, a top Pentagon spokesman said in a statement.

“Two F/A-18 aircraft dropped 500-pound laser-guided bombs on a mobile artillery piece near Erbil,” Rear Adm. Kirby said. “ISIL was using this artillery to shell Kurdish forces defending Erbil where U.S. personnel are located.”

A small clutch of U.S. advisers have been based in the city during recent weeks, assessing the capability of Kurdish forces to defend the region. No other details were immediately provided.
There was a pause between the first, second and third waves of attacks from the US aircraft.
However, we are also told by The Guardian that drones, as well as F-18s, were involved.
The drone hit an Isis mortar position near the city, the Pentagon said, about three hours after Friday’s first fighter jet strike. A second pass by the drone killed suspected Isis militants when they “returned to the site moments later.”

Over an hour later, four more FA-18 Super Hornets hit an Isis vehicle convoy of seven vehicles while it was parked near the city, as well as a mortar position. Two passes by the jets dropped eight laser-guided bombs.

Together, the three strikes suggested an air campaign to protect Iraqi Kurdistan was beginning to take shape, marking the return of US aircraft to combat in Iraq.

An AP correspondent at the scene reported six bombs dropped at the front at Khazer, the site of a camp for displaced Iraqi Arabs just outside Irbil, abandoned in the face of the Isis offensive. Peshmerga fighters had been told to withdraw from their positions just before the sorties began, but even so, one of the bombs landed within 100 metres of their lines.
While the narcissist-in-chief has prided himself on the removal of troops from Iraq, a move that I do agree with, though not in the way that he did it, the reality is that he left a vacuum in Iraq that has been filled by Islamists who seek to impose the religion of Mohammed firmly in the nation.
National Security advisor and Benghazi talking points tamperer Ben Rhodes stated, “The fact of the matter is we have people in Irbil and if Irbil is allowed to fall, they will be at risk.”
While at least one member of Iraq’s political system has been pleading tearfully for someone to step in and save them from the bloodthirsty Islamists that are conquering their land, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, “The President is determined to make sure that the United States is not dragged back into a long military conflict in Iraq,”
However, in a bizarre event of confliction of reports, the New York Times reported that around 5PM EST on Thursday that Kurdish officials and other media outlets reported that American forces conducted airstrikes in Iraq, the Pentagon denied the allegations via Twitter:

Rear Adm. John Kirby @PentagonPresSec Follow

Press reports that US has conducted airstrikes in Iraq completely false. No such action taken.
    2:05 PM - 7 Aug 2014

The claims of airstrikes are supported with video of the actual strikes by the F-18s.

The question should come to mind, what is being done about the thousands of Islamists that are brutally murdering and intimidating Iraqis, including Iraqi Christians throughout the land? I’m not one for getting into other nation’s business, but I do have to ask, why are we bombing limited artillery of the Islamic State instead of seeking out the individual jihadists who have a death wish to go be with their 72 virgins and have no problem slaughtering their own people to advance the caliphate? From my position this is nothing more than to make Obama appear as though he is doing the right thing, when he is simply bombing insignificant targets.

    Obama's Long War Drive-By

You know things are bad politically for Obama when he's authorizing bombing in Iraq.

    Obama's Long War Drive-By

    Aug. 11, 2014

Three years after withdrawing from Iraq, American military aircraft returned there Friday to carry out two specific missions: a targeted destruction of an Islamic State-controlled artillery piece threatening Kurdish forces defending the Iraqi city of Erbil, where an American consulate is located, and to provide humanitarian relief to thousands of beleaguered Yazidis seeking refuge on Mount Sinjar. Yazidis, who are described as “ethnic Kurds whose religion is an offshoot of Zoroastrianism, the religion of pre-Islamic Persia (Iran) and one of the world’s first monotheistic faiths,” were forced to flee the nearby city of Sinjar when Islamic State forces swept in last week.
“[W]hen we have the unique capabilities to help avert a massacre, then I believe the United States of America cannot turn a blind eye,” said Barack Obama of the mission, though he had no problem turning that blind eye toward the Christians in Mosul.
You know things are bad politically for Obama when he’s authorizing bombing in Iraq. Bill Clinton did the same thing in Afghanistan and Sudan to distract from his 1998 midterm troubles, and he then bombed Iraq just for good measure in December of that year. Obama declared Friday, “I don’t think we’re going to solve this problem in weeks,” adding, “I think this is going to take some time.” He then promptly departed for vacation at Martha’s Vineyard.
Before he left, however, he made time to remind everyone that leaving Iraq wasn’t his decision – a half truth at best. In fact, his perpetual six year presidential campaign has been run on leaving Iraq, and he couldn’t resist repeating his boast of keeping that promise: “I ran for this office in part to end our war in Iraq and welcome our troops home, and that’s what we’ve done.” At a very high price, we might add.
His strategy now, however, isn’t really a strategy. “As commander in chief,” he pontificated, “I will not allow the United States to be dragged into fighting another war in Iraq.” Memo to Obama: This is the same war. He continued, “[A]nd so even as we support Iraqis as they take the fight to these terrorists, American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq, because there is no American military solution to the larger crisis in Iraq.”
So he’s going to drop a few bombs and leave the rest to someone else – the equivalent of a drive-by shooting.
Let’s review some history. The creation of the Islamic State is just the latest chapter in a centuries-old battle. At one time the group was known as al-Qaida in Iraq, though Obama foolishly belittled them as al-Qaida’s JV team. But earlier this year al-Qaida disavowed the group, and, after the breakup, they adopted the name of The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which they then shortened to the Islamic State. Now, al-Qaida fighters are joining ISIL.
Straddling like a spider web over portions of Syria and Iraq, ISIL’s goal is to create a hardline Sunni Islamic caliphate. This places them in direct opposition to the Shia-controlled Iraqi government – which is undergoing its own strife from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s regime that won’t go away and may even be staging its own coup. Meanwhile, ISIL also opposes the government in Syria and has annexed much of that nation’s eastern frontier in heavy fighting. Even Iran is involved in the fight against ISIL, supporting the current government in Iraq as well as Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.
While the fighting has many of the elements of an exceedingly bloody but simple civil war, the ominous threat of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi upon his 2009 release from an Iraqi detention camp – “I’ll see you guys in New York” – is reflected in a recent video from Vice News featuring ISIL press officer Abu Mosa taunting Americans about being humiliated in Iraq again. “Don’t be cowards and attack us with drones,” said Mosa. Of course, Obama didn’t use drones this time; he dropped a couple 500 pound bombs.
Yet even the provocation of being called “cowards” and the capture of American-supplied Iraqi military hardware may not do much to sway an American public weary of fighting in the Middle East. It is, however, drawing the allegiance of a few hundred Westerners who have decided to join the struggle for radical Islam.
One of those was Moner Mohammad Abusalha, a 22-year-old Florida man who drove an explosive-laden truck into a Syrian restaurant. His final video featured his rant about “always [being] sad and depressed” in America, but happy with the life he was about to give up. Abusalha had returned to Florida in the months before his demise, but eventually went back to Syria to play his role in the suicide bombing. How did he slip in and what does that mean for homeland security?
What’s striking about this particular stage in the seemingly never-ending religious strife in the region is the savagery toward opposition fighters as well as otherwise innocent civilians, particularly Christians and other non-Muslims. It’s the utter disregard for human life, including their own, as well as the shocking willingness to perform it live on video, which seems to make this conflict much worse than a garden-variety civil war.
In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, George W. Bush reminded us that we would be embarking on a Long War against radical Islam. “Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign unlike any other we have ever seen,” Bush said. And as for being war weary, columnist Arnold Ahlert writes, “You know the trouble with being war weary? It is an utterly bankrupt notion when it rubs up against the reality that those dedicated to the destruction of Western civilization have no weariness of war whatsoever.
Barack Obama has rejected the idea that the struggle is far bigger than some cheap humanitarian relief via a quick bomb drop on the way out on vacation. And in forging his foreign policy on such errant assumptions, he has ensured the war will be even longer.

Horror - Anglican Vicar of Baghdad: “Child I Baptized Cut in Half by ISIS”

    By Onan Coca / 11 August 2014

“I’m almost in tears because I’ve just had somebody in my room whose little child was cut in half. I baptized his child in my church in Baghdad. This little boy, they named him after me – he was called Andrew.” – Vicar of the Anglican Church in Baghdad, Canon Andrew White

Everyday things in Iraq grow worse. Everyday our planet grows ever darker because of the heinous crimes that we have all become witness to. The persecution, torture, rape and murder of innocents has become commonplace in our world -- and we seem to have become desensitized to it all. Each evening our media covers the day’s highlights (and lowlights) in typical fashion, and each evening we brush it off and continue on as if oblivious to the pain around us.
Canon Andrew White, the Vicar of the Anglican Church in Baghdad has become an important source of news from within the terror filled nation for the outside world of Christendom. He has been able to provide a first hand account of the horrors being faced by Christians (and other non-Sunni Muslim minorities) as the monsters of ISIS bear down on them.
His latest report from Iraq is truly heart wrenching.
An influential member of the Anglican Church in Iraq has seen horrible tragedy in recent days. The man had been the caretaker of the Anglican Church in Iraq before retiring and moving his family to northern Iraq, where they should have been safer, living in a community of Christians away from the large population centers filled with Muslims. But ISIS could not be accounted for, and as they swept into Iraq they targeted villages like Qaraqosh, precisely because they knew they were villages populated by Christians.
“This town of Qaraqosh is a Christian village so they knew everybody there was part of their target group,” said White. “They [the Islamic State] attacked the whole of the town. They bombed it, they shot at people.”

“I’m almost in tears because I’ve just had somebody in my room whose little child was cut in half,” he said. “I baptized his child in my church in Baghdad. This little boy, they named him after me – he was called Andrew.”
The brutality with which ISIS conducts its affairs has become known worldwide, and sadly, there does not seem to be an end to the evil they are pouring out. Iraqi forces have been unable to stop them, Syrian forces are simply holding them at bay, and today America has no stomach for such a fight. Which means thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands more will lose their lives to these monsters. Our brothers and sisters in Christ will be the first to meet the sword because they love our Lord, as we do. Will we simply stand by? Sit on our hands?
There must be something more we can do. It’s 2014. We have the Internet, television, airplanes and more… there must be something we can do. Call your local representatives, your state representatives, your national representatives. Demand they get involved and find a way to save our brothers and sisters from these Muslim terrorist evildoers. Let us not stand by as ISIS perpetuates a new Holocaust.
