It’s as if Solyndra never happened. The Obama Administration is giving $737 million to a Tonopah Solar, a subsidiary of California-based SolarReserve. PCG is an investment partner with SolarReserve. Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law happens to be the number two man at PCG.

The Energy Department announced Wednesday that is has finalized a $737 million loan guarantee for a Nevada solar project.

The decision comes several weeks after a California-based solar manufacturer that received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration in 2009 filed for bankruptcy and laid off 1,100 workers, setting off a firestorm in Washington.

The $737 million loan guarantee will help finance construction of the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, a 110-megawatt solar-power-generating facility in Nye County, Nev. The project is sponsored by Tonopah Solar, a subsidiary of California-based SolarReserve.

Crescent Dunes is the latest solar project to receive a loan guarantee from the Energy Department in recent weeks. The department announced a $1.2 billion loan guarantee to Abengoa Solar for a solar generation project in California and a $150 million loan guarantee to 1366 Technologies for a Massachusetts solar manufacturing project earlier this month.

The Energy Department says the project will result in 600 construction jobs and 45 permanent jobs.

Tom Georgis serves as Senior Vice President of Development for Solar Reserve, the parent company of Tonopah Solar (the Tonopah Solar email address even routes to a Solar Reserve account). http://www.tonopahsolar.com/about_solarreserve.html According to the Solar Reserve biography for Georgis, http://solarreserve.com/aboutUs-BIO-TomGeorgis.html he has worked in the energy sector for 20 years, including a stint as "a manager at Enron Corp. where he was responsible for developing and structuring energy asset projects internationally; negotiating and closing over 500 MW of power generation agreements."

Of course, to have worked for Enron does not mean Georgis is a crook. In fact, he has the very honorable distinction of also having "served nine years as a Naval Special Warfare Officer in the United States Navy." But the trivia is certainly interesting, given President Obama's recent history with Solyndra.

Greta Van Susteren just had interview on. Administration has 5 billion more slated to go to similar projects. It just gets better. Talking about Alabama law now.

They are in a feeding frenzy to get the money out the door and get everyone taken care of before the last day of the fiscal year.

This is just unbelievable. This is just robbery. It does not cost this much to build a solar plant. It's criminal. Someone needs to do something to stop this madness. Congress needs to halt this appropriation.

GOP claims that the Obama administration’s green energy loan guarantee program is mired in cronyism grew on Friday after a company tied to Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law got the lion’s share of the final government hand-outs made before Friday’s end of the fiscal year.

The decision to guarantee $737 million comes hard on the heels of the loss of more than $500 million of government money due to the bankruptcy of solar panel company Solyndra.

The new grant went to Tonopah Solar Energy, a subsidiary of SolarReserve, which started building Crescent Dunes, a massive solar-thermal plant in the Nevada desert in early September.

One of SolarReserve’s major financial backers is the PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund (East), whose second-in-command is Ronald Pelosi, the brother of the House Minority leader’s husband, Paul. Another investor is Argonaut Private Equity, a company that lost heavily in the Solyndra debacle.

Already one Republican member of the House Energy and Commerce promised Newsmax that he will be keeping a close eye on the loan to SolarReserve. “You had better believe it is going to be looked at,â€
