Inmates Show Off Drugs, Guns, Gambling Inside Jail

Mayor Landrieu: 'The videotape is outrageous'

A New Orleans parish released a shocking video on Tuesday that shows inmates doing drugs, gambling, waving a hand gun and drinking beer.

An angry Mayor Mitch Landrieu called on the federal government to oust Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman and take over the city jail.

“The videotape is outrageous,” Landrieu said. ‘I have never seen anything like it.”

He continued: “In light of this disturbing evidence, we again request the Department of Justice join us in immediately putting a federal receiver in place to manage the jail. It is now clearer than ever that the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is not keeping the prison secure and our city safe.”
