Obamacare Architect: “Lack of Transparency” Was Key to Fooling Stupid Americans

Johnathan Gruber admits deception on Affordable Health Care Act vital to getting bill passed

In a newly uncovered video, Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber admits that a “lack of transparency” was key in getting the Affordable Care Act passed because “the stupidity of the American voter” would have otherwise killed the bill.

From 2009-2010 Gruber, a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, served as a technical consultant to the Obama Administration during which time he helped craft the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare.

During a recent panel discussion, Gruber explained that the characterization of the individual mandate as a tax, which led to the Supreme Court upholding it as such, was not actually a tax at all.

“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes,” stated Gruber. “If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. Okay, so it’s written to do that. In terms of risk rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in – you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed.”

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” he added. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical for the thing to pass. Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.”

Although it’s widely acknowledged that Obamacare was forced through off the back of broken promises and dirty tricks, to have someone who helped craft the law brazenly admit the fact is still shocking.

The clip is also disturbingly ironic given Obama’s 2013 claim that his White House is “the most transparent administration in history .”

When the President was promoting the virtues of Obamacare in 2009, he also infamously uttered the line, “First, no matter what’ve you’ve heard, if you like your doctor — or health care plan — you can keep it.”That promise was shattered earlier this year when Obama acknowledged during an interview with WebMD that Americans, “might end up having to switch doctors.”

Marc Thiessen, former speechwriter for George W. Bush, was on “The Kelly File” to discuss the newly surfaced video where ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber reveals that a “lack of transparency” helped pass the health care law.
“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass,” Gruber said in the video.
“If it takes lying to us to get what they want done, they’re willing to do it,” Thiessen said.
Thiessen described Gruber as so condescending that “he actually wrote a comic book to explain ObamaCare because of course we’re not smart enough to read chapter books.” Thiessen noted that the book describes the individual mandate as “the spinach we have to eat in order to get the dessert that is fairly priced health insurance. “
Megyn Kelly said that she invited Gruber back on the show to defend himself tonight, but he said he wasn’t interested.
“You know what? We’re no longer interested in you, Mr. Gruber, and 28 Democrats who voted for that health care law just got fired by the American people because eventually they realized they had been lied to […] one by one, the misrepresentations have come out and the American people have had their say."

A key architect of Obamacare has been caught openly boasting about taking advantage of, what he calls, “the stupidity of the American voter.”
MIT economics professor Jonathan Gruber spoke at a panel on October 17 on the political hurdles Obamacare faced in 2009-10. The video was unearthed and posted on Youtube by American Commitment.



Gruber was instrumental in crafting the legislation that was signed into law in March 2010.
In the midst of his explanation, Gruber bragged about the multiple deceptions the Obama White House perpetrated on the American people:

This is a jaw dropping disclosure of the political lengths those in the Obama Administration were willing to go to avoid the hard truths about their signature legislative achievement.

A new ad from the Republican National Committee (RNC) was released on Friday, slamming Obama architect and MIT economics professor Jonathan Gruber, along with a few choice Democrats as well.
As of this posting, five different videos have surfaced of Gruber making disparaging comments about the American people and/or suggesting that had the ObamaCare bill been transparent, it would never have passed.
The RNC is seeking to promote #Grubering, which has quickly become a new meme on Twitter. With good reason.

“Jonathan Gruber at MIT devoted hours and hours to an essential econometric model,” Romney said.
That econometric model is now very controversial as Romneycare’s costs have exploded.
