Growing Dissatisfaction With Country Shown In Poll

    November 1, 2011
    by Personal Liberty News Desk

A recent Fox News poll showed that a growing number of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction the country is going, as 76 percent of participants voiced their concern. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10 ... n-country/

The numbers show a significant increase in displeasure among Americans, as the poll results rose from 69 percent in April and 61 percent at the beginning of the year, according to the news outlet.

According to Fox News, the growing negative sentiment surrounding the state of the country is tied to President Barack Obama, as a total of 50 percent of those surveyed disapprove of the job he is doing.

Reuters reported that a monthly poll by the non-profit, non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation showed that the discontent with the Obama healthcare reform has reached new heights, as 51 percent of those who were surveyed responded that they have an unfavorable opinion of the legislation. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/ ... The number of respondents that disliked the healthcare law increased largely due to a rise in discontented Democrats, as this poll showed a decline to 52 percent from 65 percent in September

Healthcare Law Penalizes Marriage, Analysts Say

    November 1, 2011
    by Personal Liberty News Desk

A recent discovery in the future implementation of the healthcare law has critics arguing whether the legislation will impose a penalty on women and marriage, according to Fox News. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10 ... lysts-say/

The news outlet reported that the law includes generous subsidies for uninsured Americans so they can afford to buy coverage in the new exchanges for insurance that are built into the legislation.

These subsidies could have an effect on the institution of marriage.

"The way this bill is structured, there are disincentives for women to marry and disincentives for women to work," Diana Furchtgott-Roth, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, told Congress in an address. "And for a bill that's supposed to make Americans healthier, these disincentives are truly startling."

According to Fox News, the new law provides significant subsidies so that those without insurance can buy it on the new exchanges, a process that is dependant on the income level of the individual.

"Two singles would each be able to earn $43,000 and still receive help to purchase health insurance, but if they got married and combined their earnings to $86,000, they would be far above the limit," Furchtgott-Roth explained.

Representative Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.) told Congress that he knew people who would get a divorce to make the legislation work for them, according to The Washington Times http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/ins ... ealth-law/
