OLYMPIA: Gregoire pledges to work with Mexico’s president on trade

Gov. Chris Gregoire says she and Mexican President Felipe Calderon agreed Wednesday to work together on knocking down trade barriers, boosting trade and fighting drug trafficking.
The governor is leading a 50-member trade mission to Mexico City and Guadalajara this week. She hosted then-President Vicente Fox in Seattle and Yakima last year and is paying a return visit to one of the state’s Top 10 trading partners.

Gregoire said the delegation is highlighting Washington-headquartered companies, like Costco and Starbucks, and promoting a variety of large and small businesses, wines and farm products. The governor took part in promotions for french fries and cherries, wines, dairy products and tourism.

Higher education, ports, tourism and other sectors also have representatives on the trade mission.
