    The thing is I feel most of us just want to make a decent living, have a home, dependable car, food on the table, pay the bills and send our kids to college. Is that asking to much?

    According to Greenspan, yes. And, as for leaning on charm instead of ability, many career guides point out the importance of soft skills now that hard competence has been commoditized and globalized. If someone will work for 1/3 or less than you, and seems to have similar abilities, how good do you have to be to keep your job?
