Former owners of medical center to pay $10-million settlement in alleged Medicare fraud scheme

The two former owners of City of Angels Medical Center will pay $10 million as part of a consent judgment over allegations that they performed unnecessary medical work on homeless people recruited from skid row shelters as part of a Medicare fraud scheme.

The case involves Los Angeles businessman Robert Bourseau and Dr. Rudra Sabaratnam, who were accused by federal prosecutors of Medicare and Medi-Cal fraud.

Authorities alleged that City of Angels found healthy homeless people in downtown Los Angeles and brought them to various medical facilities, where they received medical treatment they didn't need. The defendants then allegedly charged the government.

If I'm not mistaken isn't MediCARE for senior citizens and disabled adults? MediCAID is for kids and non-senior citizens. Seems to be alot more fraud in MediCAID than in Medicare. Medicaid services should be audited and cut. Leave Medicare alone, the seniors are the ones who already paid into it.

When are illegal aliens going to be kicked off Medicaid??

My mother got paperwork from Medicare about her operation, with bills from the hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, other doctors and for follow-up visits and treatments and procedures, drugs, etc. It took her 2 hours on the phone to get it straightened out that she never saw any of these doctors, was never in that hospital and never had that operation. It's called Medical ID fraud. Someone who isn't eligible uses someone else's ID to get medical care.

Same happened to my mother many times, but if I hadn't called to report it, it would have gone on.

It's our responsibility to call their fraud hotline when we notice things like this. My question is, who is looking out for Medicaid fraud?

I know people who are receiving Medicaid (and know they aren't eligible for it) don't turn themselves in. Next time someone brags about it, I'll turn them in.
