Medvedev Calls U.S. Dollar International Problem

Medvedev Calls U.S. Dollar International Problem

The U.S. dollar has fallen so much that it has now become an international problem, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told journalists from Reuters. According to Medvedev, the United States has to solve the problems of its currency, but other countries should strive to make the international financial system multicurrency. That would allow the risks associated with the fall in the exchange rate of a single currency to be avoided.
The Russian president earlier expressed his opinion about the financial crisis that has engulfed the developed countries and served as one of the causes of the fall of the dollar. Medvedev stated at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg that the U.S. itself is largely responsible for the crisis, since the real abilities of the country do not correspond with the position it occupies in the international financial system.

In the interview, Medvedev answered a series of questions on the Russian economy. In particular, he repeated that the conflict between the shareholders of TNK-BP should be decided on the legal arena without the participation of the state. In addition, the Russian president noted that the state will gradually take measures to reduce its participation in the economy and continue the policy of privatization of a number of assets.

Bush Accused of Oil Deal Cover-Up

Bush Accused of Oil Deal Cover-Up

House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman says the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush was informed in advance of a dubious deal between the Texas company Hunt Oil and the government of Kurdistan, according to the website TPM. The deal was announced in September 2007. Bush then condemned both sides and claimed not to know about preparations for it. The deal was criticized because the government of Kurdistan made it without the participation of Baghdad, thus angering Shia and Sunni Arabs at a time when negotiations on distributing the profits from oil production in Iraq were just getting underway.
A report presented to the U.S. Congress states that Bush discussed the deal with the head of Hunt Oil Ray Hunt several months before it was finalized. Hunt is a longtime political ally of Bush. According to the Next Hurrah website, Hunt Oil has financed the election campaigns of several members of the Bush family.

Information appeared in the press at the end of last month that U.S. State Department employees took part in preparations for deals between five oil companies and the government of Iraq. The rule of the government employees was said to be purely technical. They provided legal assistance and did not influence what companies participated or what the conditions of their agreements were.

The Hunts were wheeling and dealing while Georgie was still in diapers.

If anything, GW is learning something from them.
