The U.S. and the Philippines have staged a joint military exercise – storming an island in the South China Sea, near a marine area disputed with Beijng. America has been upping its armed presence in the Asia Pacific region, despite growing protests from China. Asia Times correspondent, Pepe Escobar, says that it’s the latest attempt by Washington to provoke Beijing.
