When US officials work to build the case to increase money for military might, they often use China as an excuse or threat. But when it comes to dealing with the economy and the fact that China owns much of the debt, the relationship is painted much rosier.

The relationship between the US and China has been full of ups and downs as long as it has existed. Economically speaking, however, Lawrence Korb from the Center for American Progress says that the two countries rely on one another. According to Korb, if China doesn't lend America money to stimulate their economy, Chinese goods will go un-bought. While America may in fact always be looking for enemies, says Korb, these two superpowers need each other and will avoid unnecessary tensions at all costs.
