Phoenix police arrest 3 in death of girl, 2.

Police have arrested three people in a child-abuse investigation of the death of Juanita Buelna, a 2-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in a Phoenix apartment Friday afternoon.

During questioning, the child's grandmother, Juanita Rodriguez, 43, admitted to abusing the toddler, police said.

Two other men also admitted to abusing the child: the grandmother's boyfriend, 32-year-old Jumilio Dominguez-Vazquez, and a family friend, 37-year-old Christopher Lopez, police said.

The girl had been left in the care of the two men on Friday, said Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos.

Martos said the men reported calling the grandmother, the child's legal guardian, when they found the child wasn't breathing.

The grandmother called 911 about 4:30 p.m. after returning to the apartment in the 4500 block of North Black Canyon Highway.

The paramedics administered CPR but were unable to revive the toddler. She was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Because of the nature of injuries visible on the child, all three adults were detained for questioning by Phoenix police, Martos said.

It is unknown at this time if the child's injuries caused her death, Martos said. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy over the weekend to determine manner and cause of death.

I would not trust any of them to care for my little kitty cat, much less a little baby girl age two year old.

Heartbreaking. I believe aka mom tryed to leave the scene shortly
after. This one has more than the death of another innocent all over it!

A grandmother at 43 with a 32 year-old boyfriend. Good grief...sounds like a culture of failure to me. There's no telling what kind of abuse this child was subjected to at the hands of these animals.
