No Nation, No Border, Fight Law and Order

Everyday on the way into the office I walk past a particular piece of Graffiti. It's been there for a number of years. Whilst most graffiti gets painted out or cleaned off quite promptly this wall remains. I now get the feeling that the building owner must in fact be the graffiti artist or have an empathy with the message it tries to portray. The words though seem in a time-warp with reality. I imagine that perversely this was sprayed on the wall by a visiting unelected 55 year old diplomat from Brussels as one of the European Union’s slogans.

With the Schengen borders that with great fanfare were opened up, we now hear they are about to closed. I believe this is no bad thing. Part of the European vision has been no borders within the region and yet how can that ever be?

Vince Cable, UK Business Secretary ruthless for the coalition Government which he as a liberal democrat is part of recently branded his coalition partners The Conservatives, 'calculating and thoroughly tribal'.

At the time when reading I thought how thoroughly naive to believe that they could be anything other than described. But then Mr Cable does seem to be a master of stating the obvious albeit in slightly more colourful language than his contemporaries. I can see this been used at the conservative party's annual conference.

'The Nation in a safe pair of hands. Calculating and tribal. Vote Conservative'

Not only does self interest happen individually and locally, it happens nationally. We like our borders, our identity, and our nationalistic values. We value the identity of our social environment, be it our country, city, town or village. We are proud of the environment we create.

Everyday we get up, unlock the door and leave our homes 'locked'. If you have a garden it is often fenced, gated and locked. Our nature is we don't want just anyone walking into our domain. When someone new is around we are curious to find out who that person is. Curtains twitch and people show their presence. Our instincts, primeval and animalistic survive.

The borders of our national identity should be no different. Having a surly customs official check out your ID when you arrive back 'home' makes you feel more secure. We don't want just anybody arriving unchecked in our village. That is our nature. For each National there is something quite satisfying about having a rather stern individual, paid after all by us, checking your credentials as you cross the border and a slight relief when allowed back in to the safety of your Nation.

We all work hard to build and create an environment that reflects each societies national values. Do we want to let uninvited guests in that can spoil the party?

Undoubtedly as borders have come down international crime has increased. With no borders criminals or terrorists are free to move to new territories. Nobody is supposed to question who you are, where you're from, why are you here? we are now after-all Europeans.

Yet during this transition period of no borders, more and more methods of checking individuals identities on a global scale have been introduced. For example the National Insurance Card in case you need medical treatment within Europe. The sharing of passport databases with European partners. The introduction of European standardised driving licenses with photographs. Pet passports. Identification needed to buy goods or travel are becoming common place on a micro scale. The list goes on.

The idea being that as borders disappear individuals need to be identified more easily on a European if not global scale. Freedom of movement comes at a price. And that price is the loss of privacy in everyday affairs.

The establishment needs to keep you under control.

Cameras, to monitor our movements, have been installed. Which individual is where and at what time. Mobile phone data giving our location is harvested by operators and manufacturers and used by the police when needed and other organisations and agencies that we barely know exist. Our cars carry prominent identities. We are photographed wherever we travel.

Of course some people would argue that if you haven't done anything wrong then what is there to worry about. The worry should be though "who is telling us what is right or wrong or what we can or can't do".

At least with borders and national Governments the people have more control. Each National Establishment is answerable to the democracy of the people within its borders rather than legally binding laws developed by unelected European officialdom.

Can you now live in any nation state in Europe without official identity and move freely, unencumbered within those borders without the need to identify who you are? There was time you could. No borders have brought less freedom to individuals. The National Identity created through centuries of social evolution have through the European experiment been rather to quickly engineered into the European fable written and developed from 1953 onwards.

Definition of fable: A Feigned story or tale, intended to instruct (or amuse); a fictitious narration intended to enforce some useful truth or perception.

Increasingly our perception of what we can and cannot be allowed to do has been manipulated though 'European friendly' media that is slowly trying erode our national values.

Centuries of values are been quickly unravelled by unelected officials who preside over Europe based in a country that can't even form a government. Belgium has had no Government for almost a year. This is because of tribal divisions between the Dutch speaking north and the French speaking south.

Who is in control of these people both politically and morally? The answer is that they are a law unto themselves. These relative few individuals are out of control, dictating policy and self interest that becomes enshrined into each nation states laws. They are tribal and calculating. No different from you or me they have been allowed through our own complacency and their manipulation to build a seemingly unstoppable structure of power and the transfer of wealth.

Whether part of the plot or not the bankers and sovereign bond holders have realised this opportunity and are now asset stripping each country and holding the taxpayers of each nation state to ransom for years to come. As in the 1930's when the banks arbitrarily foreclosed on farms in the mid-west wealth is moving to the chosen few. Banks are demanding collateral on their loans and will soon be taking Islands in Greece and control of profit making Government organizations. Government land (owned by taxpayers) will be forfeited.

We are in the midst of one of the greatest transfer of wealth in history. We seem blind to it or unable to act.

Borders. We need them. We are human and we are thoroughly calculating and tribal. Long may our individualism and nationalism shine through for without them we are nothing. Let each tribe now decide what is best for them. That of course may lead to a Greek default.
