A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg early Sunday following a dispute with two men over women and "territory" at a Wicker Park gas station.

The shooting happened about 5 a.m. at 1950 W. Division St. at a Shell gas station, according to Shakespeare District police.

Two men were attempting to talk to two women when two men approached them, asked them if they knew where they were and pulled out a gun, police said.

The shooting happened on the gas station property near the gas price sign, according to a Shell employee.

A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, police said.

The offenders are described as two Hispanic men. One man was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, and the other man was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans, police said.

The two men fled on foot following the shooting and were not in custody Sunday morning.

Police said the offenders may have been in a gang and may have mentioned that the men were stepping in “their territory.â€
