Police arrest three suspects

March 31, 2008
The Waukegan Police Department in conjunction with the Gurnee Police, Round Lake Beach, and Zion police departments, have announced the arrests of three suspects involved in a string of armed robberies at fast food restaurants and electronics stores dating back to December.

The robberies involved masked suspects entering stores at night, just before closing, then forcing employees at gunpoint into coolers or offices while they stole cash and electronics. In three of the seven robberies, police said female employees were forced to perform oral sex at gunpoint, information that was not released to the media during the ongoing investigation.

The arrests of three suspects came Friday night after Waukegan Police responded to an armed robbery in progress at Papa John's pizza at 1321 N. Green Bay Road, in Waukegan.

Police arrived on the scene at about 10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a customer in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers observed two male suspects flee from the store. One subject was apprehended following a short foot chase. The other suspect was found hiding in the area.

A third suspect, a female, was found sitting in a vehicle in the 600 block of N. County St.

Police recovered a BB gun and a stun gun at the scene. All three suspects were taken to the Waukegan Police Department. One officer was injured during the incident, and was treated and released from an area hospital.

Arrested was Alonzo Amos, 22, of the 600 block of N. County St.; Jermmie Carlisle, 21, of the 2100 block of Kristian, North Chicago; and Ashley Robinson, 21, who has been identified as the getaway driver.

Amos and Robinson are charged with seven counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated robbery.

Carlisle is charged with five counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse related to the offenses that occurred during three of the robberies.

The robberies, which the suspects confessed to, included:

*Arby's, Waukegan, on Dec. 13.

*Game Stop, Waukegan, on Jan. 14.

*Subway, Gurnee, on Jan. 23.

*Burger King, Gurnee, on Jan. 31.

*Radio Shack, on Belvidere Road in Waukegan, on Feb. 5.

*Game Stop, Round Lake Beach, on March 2.

*Wendy's, Zion, on March 2.

During interviews, police discovered Amos and Robinson were responsible for all of the above listed robberies. Carlisle was found to be responsible for the Papa John's, Radio Shack, and Game Stop robberies in Waukegan, and the Burger King and Subway robberies in Gurnee.

Police conducted a search of Amos' residence and located proceeds from several robberies including laptop computers, video game systems and games, and cell phones.

The investigation is ongoing, as police are still looking for others persons of interest.
