Political refugee charged with rape in East Bay

Political refugee charged with rape in East Bay

    (11-06) 18:08 PST OAKLAND, CALIF. --

A former Brazilian police officer has been charged with numerous counts of rape in the assaults on six women in Oakland and Emeryville, a prosecutor said Friday.

Gleiston Porcino De Andrade, 38, told several of his victims that he was a police officer and showed one of the women a badge, said Norbert Chu, an Alameda County assistant district attorney.

Five of the victims were prostitutes, Chu said.

De Andrade was charged with seven counts of rape, seven counts of forced oral copulation, two counts of robbery and one count of trying to persuade a victim not to report a crime. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

De Andrade is in the United States under a grant of political asylum, Chu said, but the reasons were not immediately clear.

The victims, ranging in age from 15 to 25, were attacked from April 9 to Oct. 26, when Emeryville police Officer Steve Hintergardt found De Andrade assaulting a woman in a truck on the 1900 block of Powell Street, Chu said.

Two days earlier, Emeryville police Officer Ed Mayorga interviewed a prostitute who provided a "clear and unambiguous" description of De Andrade, his vehicle and the spot where he took women, Chu said.

    15 to 25?

LWOP. He can be a political refugee in an 8X10 cell for the rest of his life. No possibility of parole. Or, if really a political refugee, send this one back and let his "government" mete out their own brand of punishment/justice.

Personally, I think keep his sorry butt here and give the victim(s) the justice they deserve.
An American of Irish descent - NOT an "Irish-American".
He is my son. He currently serves for us in Iraq.

I agree. Keep his sorry butt here and let him sit in a cell before he molests more children. And it is unclear what his basis for political refugee even was. So if we send him back there may be no real danger for him anyway.
