Polls Show Democrats Heading for Midterm Defeat as Voters Question Biden's Priorities

Democrats may be heading for defeat in the 2022 midterm elections as a majority of voters seem think President Joe Biden isn't paying enough attention to the problems facing the U.S.
A poll conducted by Schoen-Cooperman Research from December 2 to 9 found the GOP leading Democrats in the midterms by 48 percent to 45 percent and this apparent trend is reflected in other recent surveys.

The Schoen-Cooperman Research poll also found that 53 percent of voters said that Biden "hasn't paid enough attention to the country's most important problems," while just 38 percent said he had the right priorities.
That poll was conducted among 800 likely voters and had a margin of error of +/-3 percent.
Schoen-Cooperman Research enjoys a B/C rating from poll tracker FiveThirtyEight and its recent survey is consistent with other recent polling on the Democrats' chances in the 2022 elections.
FiveThirtyEight is tracking the generic congressional ballot using an analysis of a variety of polls and its pollster rating system and they also put Republicans ahead of Democrats.
As of December 22, FiveThirtyEight gave Republicans 43.4 support on the generic congressional ballot compared to the Democrats' 41.8 percent. Perhaps more concerning for the president's party is the fact the GOP's lead has increased in FiveThirtyEight's analysis.
Up to November 14, Democrats enjoyed a slim lead over Republicans, but that has now been reversed and if current trends continue, Biden's party could be in for a drubbing on November 8, 2022.
The president's party generally suffers in the midterm elections and Democrats have struggled to pass Biden's agenda, with the $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act currently stalled and likely unable to pass following Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) publicly declaring he was a "no" on the bill.
Democrats may also be concerned that many voters question the president's priorities. The Schoen-Cooperman Research asked voters whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement that Biden and Democrats in Congress "are out of touch with hardworking Americans. They have been so focused on passing their own agenda that they've been ignoring Americans' day to day concerns, such as the rising prices for goods and gasoline."
Fifty-one percent of respondents strongly agreed, with 15 percent somewhat in agreement. Just 17 percent strongly disagreed, while 13 disagreed somewhat and four percent weren't sure.
This appears to be an ongoing problem for Biden as a CNN poll conducted by SSRS from November 1 to 4 showed that 58 percent of Americans believed the president hadn't attention to the most important problems, while just 42 percent believed he had the right priorities.

The poll surveyed 1,004 adults and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent. CNN/SRSS enjoys a C rating from FiveThirtyEight.
An NBC News poll conducted from October 23 to 26 found that 71 percent of 1,000 adults surveyed believed the country was heading in the wrong direction. The poll had a margin of error of +/-3.1 percent and the pollster has a B+ rating from FiveThirtyEight.
While Biden's personal approval rating appears to be creeping upward, Republicans are so far maintaining their lead over Democrats, which could have serious repercussions for the president's agenda in the second half of his term.
