Prepare to Reduce Your Standard of Living—Now!

    October 14, 2008 | From theTrumpet.com

Tough times are around the corner.

Robert Morley Could American society even survive a 1930s-style crash? America is not the same nation that faced the Great Depression: Today we have much further to fall. The coming depression will arrive suddenly and be far more excruciating than most people imagine—but when it finally ends, there will be an opportunity for a new beginning!

My grandparents lived through the Great Depression. And you can see how that terrible time left its mark on that generation. Nothing is allowed to go to waste. Every last bit of food should be eaten. The buttons off of old clothing should be saved. Old jeans can be used to make patches to cover the holes in the knees of other work clothes. I even remember a proudly displayed area rug woven out of old rags.

And two things my grandparents made sure to teach us grandchildren were to be grateful for all the things we have, and to plan for tomorrow. “We might have money now,â€

With the current crop of folks we have now anything above 25% unemployment would create a crime wave like nothing this country has ever seen.

I have already installed a security system in the house and plan to go out and buy some nice security screen doors, and will probably put iron bars on the windows, bolt the gate from the inside. Just wish I could afford a camera system. Paranoid, but almost daily police helicopters are combing this part of town.

Now just imagine another country walking in, taking control, declaring our currency worthless and giving us a few pennies of their money to replace the dollars we have been busy saving. That happened in Estonia, when the Russians arrived. My family members saw their house in town burned and the farm house taken over by Russians. Not that it can necessarily happen here, but it has happened before, and perhaps still is happening.

You can afford a camera system Vortex......there is something out there to suit all budgets and needs these days.

If you would like one which you can monitor and record, I'd recommend that you look into the ones which have the built in DVR.....having to buy the DVR set up is a lot of $$$$ and is what puts a lot of people off.

Just beware the cams which claim that you can just plug right in to your TV and/or VCR allowing you to record without a DVR. There's not a single one I've seen yet which does what it claims and neither has anyone else I know who has come across them, including people who know their way around tech.

We've got a few set ups and have always had luck online shopping at the Costco site although even if you don't buy from there, it's still a good place to do some research into what you might be looking for.

Thanks for your confidence about my being able to afford a camera system, but right now that is just a James Bondish dream. I have my first priority as those security screen doors, which I will have to have installed, and the security system is already taking a bite out of the budget every month, but that is the only way I can sleep at night.

Who are the counter party signotories? How does a financial instrument of value turn into smoke and dissapear? If you make a bet there is another party to bet against, one pays the other. Who is the other? Monies moved from one spot to ? Money does not just dissapear. How can there be just losers and no winners?

Ever get the feeling that you are having your pocket picked by a very sly thief? Has Uncle Sam joined forces with the dark side and turned thief? Or perhaps Uncle Sam just got jumped in the alley by a disgruntled investor who is now holding a knife to Uncle's throat?

If toxic waste (assets) translates to liabilities on the books, Who will step forward and claim liable? Package these assets into pieces of a thousand different pieces, place astronomical odds on all of the different pieces, there still has to be a party to pick up the pieces, yes?

Granted I am just a simple minded peon, however in my simple little world, any liabilities on my books mean that I have to write a check and pay the debt. The debt has a name and a address.

If Americans are to have their taxes spent, should they not be told, have explained what these derivitives and credit defalt swaps are and how they work, and who recieves the benefits. Placing the name of, toxic waste (what fear that conjures up, heh?) or cancerous financial instruments, or financial instruments that even Wall Street executives do not really understand(?) afterall that is what has been said. Perhaps for a nice Wall Street styled bonus payment, America could find someone to explain where the monies went?

That part is frightening. I don't know if it's just me but it seems so many feel entitled to take what they want from you. There doesn't seem to be any remorse or anything. I'm afraid it will uglier than I can imagine.

LOL.....boy, do I understand the layer of security required to sleep at night and even then, it seems like I only sleep with one eye and ear closed

I hear everything......and that's despite having 4 dogs who hear everything way before we do

But yes, there is more we can....and need....to do. Unfortunately, it's one thing at a time and we're hesitant to spend too much money because one thing we know, sure as I'm sitting here, is that we're out of here. And sooner rather than later. When all hell breaks loose, the last place we want to be is in AZ.

Just hang in there though.....one day you will manage to see your way to security cams. From what I understand from someone who sells quite a few, demand is going way up these days and the lure to consumers on tight budgets should result in lower prices

Just a thought that might help to keep the wolves at bay.

Start a communist garden, err-um, I mean a community garden. Start with comrades of like thoughts, or atleast tollerable thoughts, (friends and family) and then give extras to other comrades. (friends and nieghbors.) Do not forget the elderly, they are more than willing to exchange wisdom for veggies.

Local actions could lead to local power. Plant some seeds today.
