Primary Poll Shows Trump-Hating Amash Getting Crushed by Opponent

A new primary poll for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional district shows Rep. Justin Amash (R) down by a wide margin to his pro-Trump primary opponent.A Practical Political Consulting poll gives State Rep. Jim Lower, a republican from the state’s 70th district a 16 point lead over Amash, clocking in at 49% over Amash’s 33%.

Amash recently spouted off in several Twitter threads, claiming that the results of former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report on Russian “collusion,” which turned up empty, was grounds for impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

His move sparked harsh backlash from pro-Trump constituents and questions about his dubious business ties to China.

He resigned from the House Freedom Caucus this week after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) admonished him for supporting state abuse of surveillance powers.

Michigan libertarian Congressman Justin Amash resigned from the House Freedom Caucus on Monday night. Amash had been earlier censured by the caucus for his left-wing policy stances in favor of impeaching President Trump.

He joined with Democrats in drawing reaching conclusions from an empty Mueller Report, claiming that Bill Barr was obfuscating Presidential crimes to personally protect Trump.

The Michigan congressman told Politico that he “no longer wished to be a distraction to the group.” He hadn’t shown up to caucus meetings in over a year and seems lately to have been associating more frequently with progressive Democrats.

He became a darling of establishment favorites like Mitt Romney for his Russia-conspiracy motivated attacks on the President.

Traditionally libertarians of Amash’s ilk have supported a foreign policy of peace, seeking to avoid the jingoistic and sensational rhetoric that fuels the grandiose Russia conspiracy of the left. But Amash seems to have completely disregarded that, taking the premise of a grand Russian interference plot at face value, directly from elite progressives in mainstream media and Washington.

Trump is reportedly considering supporting Lower in the primary race, which takes place on March 10.
