Public School Teachers Behind Violent Antifa Group

Public school teachers are behind a leading far-left militant group that is part of the Antifa network that federal officials say is committing “domestic terrorist violence.”
By Any Means Necessary, which has played a key role in riots in Berkeley, Sacramento and elsewhere, has dozens of public school teachers among its members, including among its most prominent leaders.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security began paying closer attention to Antifa groups in general after BAMN and other extremists started a riot and attacked marchers at a white nationalist rally in Sacramento last July, Politico reported on Friday. The Sacramento violence left at least 10 people hospitalized, several of whom had knife wounds.

One of BAMN’s most prominent organizers is Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley middle school teacher and pro-violence militant. Felarca currently faces charges of inciting a riot for her role in the Sacramento violence.

After BAMN and other antifa groups staged violent protests in Berkeley to keep right-wing author Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking, Felarca defended her group’s acts of violence. BAMN was able to cancel another event, this time an April speech by pro-Trump author Ann Coulter, by promising a repeat performance of the Milo riots.

The FBI and DHS say Antifa groups like BAMN are engaging in “domestic terrorist violence,” according to the Politico report.

Just last weekend, Felarca helped organize BAMN’s mass demonstrations that “shut down” an anti-Marxism rally in Berkeley. As with BAMN’s other organized actions, left-wing actors at Saturday demonstrations violently attacked peaceful protesters. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi condemned the Antifa violence in Berkeley, while Felarca called BAMN’s actions a “resounding success.”

BAMN’s members appear to be mixing their far-left activism with their roles as teachers.

BAMN organizer and high school teacher Nicole Conaway organized a “sickout” at her school in 2015, leading other teachers in calling in sick to protest the policies of Republican Gov. Rick Snyder. The sickout forced six Detroit-area schools to cancel classes, affecting nearly 4,000 students.

One month later, Conaway led students in a school walkout protesting poor building conditions. She was one of three BAMN organizers arrested in connection with the protest. Other BAMN members have led similar protests at the schools where they teach.

In Berkeley, Felarca and other BAMN members repeatedly abused their positions of influence over students in service of their own radical goals, Berkeley’s public school district charged in court filings obtained by local news organization Berkeleyside.

Despite repeated warnings, the district said Felarca continued to try to recruit students into her radical organization, including during work hours. The leftist teacher frequently tried to bring students on school-sponsored trips to BAMN-related activities, the district said, describing the trips as attempts to “indoctrinate” the students.

The school district accused Felarca and other BAMN members of weaponizing students to derail disciplinary hearings for Felarca, after student protesters repeatedly swarmed into the disciplinary hearings. The school district claimed that Felarca and other BAMN members “were actively trying to brainwash and manipulate” students to serve her “own selfish interests,” calling her conduct “particularly reprehensible.” Felarca continues teaching today.

Oakland Technical High School teacher and BAMN member Tania Kappner worked with Felarca this past January to organize students and teachers in a walkout in protesting Trump. Kappner was identified in the media as a BAMN member as early as 2011.

BAMN is active within both the National Education Association — the nation’s largest teacher’s union — as well as with local and regional teacher’s unions in Michigan and California.

Last year, 17 different BAMN members ran for elected positions on the Detroit Federation of Teachers, according to a newsletter sent out by the DFT. BAMN also ran five candidates for different national leadership positions with the NEA in 2017.

When the Berkeley school district suspended Felarca for her violent activism in 2016 (for which she was charged with inciting a riot), the local teacher’s union sued the school on Felarca’s behalf.

In January 2015, BAMN organizer Steve Conn was elected president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers. The DFT’s executive board charged Conn with misconduct later that year and removed him from office.

Conn and his wife, former teacher Heather Miller, were fired back in 2007 after leading a student protest that resulted in students being pepper sprayed. The couple sued and got their jobs back, in addition to a $300,000 settlement. Conn continues teaching today at Western High School.

BAMN was founded by the Revolutionary Workers League, an openly Marxist organization, in 1995.

As TheDC first reported in April, internal documents from the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) tie BAMN to NAMBLA., reveal the RWL — BAMN’s parent organization — worked with NAMBLA in the years just before the communist group founded BAMN.

One of BAMN’s founding members is on record identifying as a NAMBLA member, calling the pro-pedophilia group the victim of a “witch-hunt.” (Read TheDC’s full story on the ties between NAMBLA and BAMN here.)

Middle school teacher with history of instigating violence plays key role in Berkeley riot

    FEBRUARY 2, 2017
    BY VICTOR SKINNER

BERKELEY, Calif. – A Berkeley middle school teacher who was accused of instigating a violent clash with neo-Nazis in Sacramento this summer is back at it, recorded in a deranged rant at a Berkeley protest against Milo Yiannopoulos shortly before violence erupted Wednesday.

Yvette Felarca, a social studies teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, attended a protest against Yiannopoulos’ scheduled speech at the University of California Berkeley Wednesday, when she spoke out against the Breitbart senior editor’s controversial views and called on protesters to prevent him from speaking “by any means necessary.”

In a video posted to YouTube on Thursday, Felarca told protesters Yiannopoulos planned to partner with conservative writer David Horowitz to campaign against sanctuary cities, then encouraged her followers to take action.

“This is not about free speech,” Felarca said of Yiannopoulos’ Dangerous Faggot Tour. “These are not people who are interested in any genuine debate. They hide behind that hypocritically to try to shut up and put in our places women or Muslims or minorities or oppressed groups. But what they are really trying to do is they’re trying to assert their power, threaten us, intimidate us, rape us, kill us.
“This is real. This is life and death. This is not an abstract question of who’s theory are you interested in researching. This is about our lives right now. …

“I promise you, if we work together and we stay united, we can count on each other. We can shut this f***er down, we can get rid of Donald Trump,” she continued. “I know it, and when the Nazis tried to kill some of us, after we recovered, some of them threatened me and students at my school and tried to get me fired. But they didn’t succeed, and the students and the parents and the community rallied together and not only got me my job back but we’re stronger now, so we have got to stay united.”

She then issued marching orders to dozens of other radical leftists who converged on campus to shut down Yainnopoulos’ free speech tour “by any means necessary.”

“We have to keep tethered, keep chanting … keep your eyes open because if Yiannopoulos shows up in our rally, he’s six-foot-two, whether he’s got his blonde hair or brown hair or red hair or a hat, look out for him, because if he comes here we got to make clear to him directly to his face that he is not welcome and we will shut him down by any means necessary,” Felarca.

That was the same approach Felarca, a leader with the self-proclaimed “militant anti-facist group” By Any Means Necessary, used in June during a counter-protest to neo-Nazi rally in Sacramento.
At that event, Felarca allegedly shoved a man to the ground and instigated a brawl between the groups that ended with seven people stabbed, including two who were critically injured, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Felarca’s involvement spawned calls from parents to remove her from her teaching position, but Berkeley Unified School District officials refused to take action.
“It’s one thing if it was during a school day, but she is on vacation,” district spokesman Mark Coplan said. “We don’t have any authority or business to judge what an employee does in her off time.”
The teacher’s comments on Wednesday seemed to spark a similar violent reaction from far-left activists on Berkeley’s campus to protest Yainnopoulos.

Those who came to hear Yiannopoulos speak were beaten fists and flag poles by protesters, who also doused attendees with pepper spray, Breitbart reports.

Several folks at the event posted videos online highlighting the violence, as well as protesters yelling “f**k you racists” and other profanities. Others, wearing masks and dressed in all black, hurled Molotov cocktails, smashed out windows at a student center where Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak, threw fireworks and rocks at police, blocked traffic, and caused other mayhem.

    According to CNN:

The violent protesters tore down metal barriers, set fires near the campus bookstore and damaged the construction site of a new dorm. One woman wearing a red Trump hat was pepper sprayed in the face while being interviewed byCNN affiliate KGO. She was able to respond that she was OK after the attack.

The violence eventually forced university officials to cancel the event over safety concerns.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence and unlawful behavior that was on display and deeply regret that those tactics will now overshadow the efforts to engage in legitimate and lawful protest against the performer’s presence and perspectives,” UC Berkeley said in a statement.

“While Yiannopoulos’ views, tactics and rhetoric are profoundly contrary to our own, we are bound by the Constitution, the law, our values and the campus’s Principles of Community to enable free expression across the full spectrum of opinion and perspective. …

“Ultimately, and unfortunately, however, it was impossible to maintain order given the level of threat, disruption and organized violence.”
    Yiannopoulos took to Twitter:

I have been evacuated from the UC Berkeley campus after violent left-wing protestors tore down barricades, lit fires, threw rocks and Roman candles at the windows and breached the ground floor of the building. My team and I are safe. But the event has been cancelled. I’ll let you know more when the facts become clear. One thing we do know for sure: the Left is absolutely terrified of free speech and will do literally anything to shut it down.

He told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson shortly after the cancellation that the violent protest was “a horrible spectacle and very humiliating for American higher education.”
“ … I found out actually you can’t say very much at all without people getting upset,” he said.

“No one’s safety is at risk from different opinions,” he said, according to Breitbart. “No one’s physical safety is endangered by political ideas.”

Positions of influence in our country is where the 'dreamers' are aiming - they are more danger than NK ever hoped to be.

Wouldn't being a part of such an organization be cause for some action up to and including dismissal?'

Just wonder if it was a teacher marching with the KKK? How long with that teacher last?
