Ohio Navy medic Max Soviak, graduate of Edison High School, died in Kabul airport terrorist attack

Max Soviak, a U.S. Navy medic who graduated in 2017 from Edison High School in Milan, was killed Thursday in Afghanistan.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- An Ohio Navy medic who attended high school in Milan died Thursday in the Kabul terrorist attack that killed 13 U.S. service members and more than 100 Afghans.


Max Soviak, a 2017 graduate of Edison High School, was killed as terrorist group ISIS-K did the bombings and gunfire at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Soviak’s sister, Marilyn Soviak, expressed her sorrow for the loss of her brother on Instagram, writing in part, “I’ve never been one for politics and i’m not going to start now. What I will say is that my beautiful, intelligent, beat-to-the-sound of his own drum, annoying, charming baby brother was killed yesterday helping to save lives.”

Edison Local Schools released a statement Friday on Soviak’s passing.
“It is with deepest sorrow that I am sharing this news,” the statement read. “The Edison Local Schools was informed this morning that Max Soviak, a 2017 graduate of Edison High School, was killed in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan yesterday. Max was a good student who was active in sports and other activities throughout his school career. He was well respected and liked by everyone who knew him. Max was full of life in everything he did. Our schools and local community are mourning the loss of Max. He and his family are in all of our thoughts and prayers.”


The statement noted that Soviak’s family has asked that everyone respect their privacy at this difficult time.

Eighteen U.S. service members were also wounded in the attacks, marking the deadliest day for U.S. forces in Afghanistan since August 2011.


President Joe Biden has vowed to avenge the deaths of 13 American troops and dozens of Afghans in attacks at the Kabul airport that put the White House deeper into crisis over a chaotic and deadly end to the 20-year war, according to the Associated Press. But retribution will be more difficult with fewer U.S. intelligence assets in Afghanistan.

Terrible loss of a young life due to incompetence and a lack of leadership. May God comfort this precious child’s parents, family, and all who knew and loved him.

Our nation grieves, too. We will see more attacks on innocent Americans and others.

When is something going to happen to restore the rightfully elected President? We will not sustain three more years of the Biden regime.

Foreign citizen invasion alone will cripple us. This rapid effort to transform us demographically and to import dangerous ideology, including Sharia, radical Islam, socialism, etc. must be halted.

Maxton Soviak, a Navy Hospital Corpsman in his early 20s, was killed in Thursday’s blast while stationed outside of Hamid Karzai International Airport, helping to oversee the evacuation of thousands of Americans and Afghan allies, family said.

Soviak’s last Instagram post, written 11 weeks ago, shared a chilling message beside a photo of him decked out in military gear with two other service members.

“It’s kill or be killed,” Soviak wrote in the post.

“definitely trynna be on the kill side.”

A woman who identified herself as Soviak’s older sister, and who goes by Marilyn Soviak on Instagram, penned a heartbreaking post Friday about her brother’s death.

“he was a f–king medic. there to help people. and now he is gone and my family will never be the same. there is a large Maxton sized hole that will never be filled,” she wrote alongside a slideshow of images showing the two as children.

“he was just a kid. we are sending kids over there to die. kids with families that now have holes just like ours. i’m not one for praying but damn could those kids over there use some right now. my heart is in pieces and I don’t think they’ll ever fit back right again.”

Soviak hails from Berlin Heights, Ohio and graduated from Edison High School in 2017 where he was on the honor roll and football team, the Sandusky Register reported.

Soviak also previously worked as a lifeguard and a maintenance technician, the outlet reported.

An additional two service members out of the 13 killed have been identified.

Kareem Nikoui, a young Marine from California, and David Lee Espinoza, a 20-year-old Marine from Texas, were also killed in Thursday’s bombing, according to the Daily Beast and the Laredo Police Department.
