I wish these writers lashing out would stop abusing the word "progressive". The word "progressive" is a good word in our language. Americans have been "progressive" since they left Europe on the Mayflower, declared our independence, built towns, drained swamps, cut forests, wore trails, built roads, invented the car, the telephone, and so much more to "make things better". Just because a bunch of socialists and commies and authoritarians chose to use the word to disguise themselves as "progressives" the same way they stole the word "charity" doesn't change the good words or their actual definitions.

I also wish that in-between threatening political turmoil over all the things they're against, they would take a couple of paragraphs and let the country know a bit more specifically .... what they're for.

    Just a suggestion.

    Hey Judy!

I too tire from the words liberal, and progressive being skewed by the actions of malcontents. Thomas Jefferson was considered a liberal, but he did not advocate bigger government. He advocated the smallest least intrusive government possible. The progressive movement is something that came about with Teddy Roosevelt. He was the one who set the stage for it, and the policies and ideologies he embraced were later brought to fruition in Hitler's Germany, and Stalin's Russia.

So progressive as a political term is a skewed version of it, as it should have been called the tyrannical movement that embraced cultural, social, and ethnic cleansing. It is a side of the movement that rarely gets any publicity, but it was there. It's just that there are those who would prefer to sweep it under the rug, to hide the evil side of it. One reason my ears perked when Hildabeast said she was progressive. Uh oh!

But if those words are taken in the proper light, they stand for less intrusiveness, and an advancement to a better tomorrow for all peoples. Reguadless of where they are from.

Yes, we need to demand that the word Progressive be used in its proper context with its actual definitions in our language. It's a great word with a wonderful definition. Americans should be proud to be the Progressive we've always been and need to be. Those who use the word to cover-up tyranny or socialism should be put down for it.

Yes, Teddy Roosevelt was a Progressive as have been most Republican Presidents until very recently. Teddy Roosevelt was the "trust-buster" who enforced the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. He established the foundation for our beautiful National Parks System. He was also involved in the Gentleman's Agreement to end school segregation. He was responsible for the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act to help protect consumers from contaminated meat and false labels on food and drugs. He intervened in a major coal miners strike to negotiate a settlement. The miners agreed to go back to work and the owners agreed to pay more wages and demand less hours, something sorely needed for these workers. He also controlled immigration, protected our trade, and had a pretty sound foreign policy, won the Nobel Peace Prize for his actions in ending the Japanese-Russian War. He was also the first national politician to come forward and fight for women's rights both the right to vote and equal rights.

If the things Teddy Roosevelt believed in were things that Hitler and Stalin then tried to copy, then they screwed up royally.

Teddy Roosevelt was one of our greatest Presidents, and yes, he was a Progressive alright, because he made things better but in a way that didn't intrude upon either the liberty or prosperity of the American People, in fact, quite the opposite, because he expanded both our liberty and prosperity.
