• Comment: "The last tire at Bridgestone/Firestone's Dayton Tire plant is expected to roll off the line today, ending 37 years of production in Oklahoma City. The factory will close after workers spend next week cleaning and packing up equipment. Bridgestone/Firestone said in July it would shutter the plant with the loss of more than 1,400 jobs. The company blamed shifting consumer preference toward larger tires, as well as increased competition from lower-cost Asian import tires."

GRAHAM, N.C. -- There are more job layoffs coming in the Triad and state.

The Culp plant in Graham is shutting down at the end of April. The company is also closing a plant in Lincoln County.

The moves will result in 185 lost jobs.


The plants make fabrics for bedding and furniture.

Company officials blamed lower sales volumes and the cheaper cost of doing business overseas when assessing the move.

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Greenwood Mills plans to lay off 160 employees by February because the U.S. military has placed fewer orders for fabric, a company official said
