Sheila Jackson Lee gets booed at Town Hall: Says Illegals have right to Obama Health Care

I attended the Sheila Jackson Lee Town Hall Meeting this evening at the Multi-purpose Center on Spaulding off Tidwell, on the northside of Houston. The crowd was 3 to 4 times over capacity. Estimate: 600 to 800. Room could accomadate roughly 200 - 250. Overflow crowd was out in the entrance hall. But the room was opened up to the entrance hall.

Those who were not very close to the Congresswoman, could barely hear a word she said. The audio system was truly awful. Attendees were just as angry about the audio system as they were about Rep. Lee's position on health care.

Opponents of Obama health care reform outnumbered proponents by at least 3 to 1.

The audience both ways, was extremely loud and everyone was shouting at each other throughout the meeting.

Rep. Lee gave a brief intro of some specifics in the bill.

At approx. 15 minutes in, Rep. Lee stated that "everyone" regardless of their status should have access to health care, and that there was nothing in the bill that would exclude anyone. (Paraphrased - Not an exact quote). This drew an immediate negative reaction from the room.

A handful of opponents shouted "Just Say No... Just Say No..." Within seconds the entire room erupted into the chant.

Liberal supporters of Rep. Lee than got up from their chairs, and reacted with chants of "Yes we can... Yes we can..."

Police authorities were clearly nervous at that point. After 3 to 4 minutes of shouts on both sides, the chanting subsided.

Posters in the audience against health reform outnumbered those in favor by 3 to 1. At least one Obama as Joker poster was visible. And at least 5 Obama with a Hitler mustache were also visible.

Someone in the audience should have ripped the phone out of her hand and smashed it on the ground. People sure have forgotten manners ever since cell phones became popular!

i dont get Ms Lee.
she is in a poor older district of Houston and its mostly black.
yet she has voted time and time again against the issude that would affect he constituents. she voted for cap and trade and she favors illegal immigrants.

What is funny about the favoring of illegal immigrants is that this district was once represented by the FIRST african american female elected official in DC. One Barbara Jordan, whose remarks on illegal immigration appear frequently on NumbersUSA and other anti illegal immigration websites.
