Republican Senators Skip ENDA Hearing
By Rev. Ted Pike

Ed note: Here is the article I wrote last Saturday, following the Senate Committee's ENDA hearing. I couldn't send it out to our list of subscribers because www.truthtellers.org suffered a major cyber-attack on Friday, shutting it down. None of its content is lost but the whole site must be reformatted, which will take at least several more days. I retained in this article links to truthtellers.org, including members of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, even though these links cannot presently be accessed.

Let's take revenge on the hackers by coming to truthtellers.org in several days and proving, through renewed ENDA protest, that ADL may set us back but we will always revive our fight for freedom.

The Senate hearing for the Anti-Defamation League's Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), S. 1584, was held Wednesday. Packed with pro-homosexual witnesses and alleged victims of anti-gay discrimination at work, it was-like the House hearing September 23-another victory for the LGBT lobby.

Not one of the ten Republicans on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee showed up. Some were undoubtedly obligated elsewhere. Yet why did the others fail to show at this important hearing?

Most Christian/conservative leadership groups agree with Dr. Dobson that it is useless to fight hate crimes bills in this Democrat-overloaded Congress; they raise virtually no objection. (Only the National Prayer Network and Traditional Values Coalition continue spirited protest.) Offices of Senate Republicans did receive calls against ENDA last week, but clearly not enough to make them prioritize public opposition to it.

A second factor is that Republicans are intellectually unable to cope with ENDA. It expands the Civil Rights Act of 1964, adding homosexuals and transgenders to protected status. The Act and subsequent affirmative action laws have done much more than give legal equality to blacks; they award special, unequal rights and privileges to minorities in American government and public service, business, housing, and educational institutions. The owner of a business of 15 or more employees can no longer hire or fire at will. The livelihood built by his toil and ingenuity is semi-nationalized. Blacks, Latinos, women - even if less qualified than white male applicants or employees - enjoy preferential rights in hiring and protection from firing. The Civil Rights Act and subsequent laws are now considered sacrosanct. America has concluded they were "the right thing to do" in moving America away from any vestige of segregation or Jim Crow discrimination.

Yet America made a big mistake in 1964. We granted superior rights and services to blacks and other minorities; the rest of Americans became second-class citizens, in violation of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

For the past four decades, Americans have gradually accepted the fact that being a straight-A student does not guarantee entry to medical or law school or an Ivy-league university, if the quota of minority applicants with significantly lower GPAs has not been fulfilled. White male police or firefighter applicants may also be shunted aside to favor less qualified minorities.

But now we must realize that the sixties' civil rights legislation is being used to give sexual deviants the same superior rights, privileges and protections once limited to race and gender.

I think a big part of the reason ten Republicans didn't show Wednesday is because, to effectively criticize ENDA, they would have to criticize the Civil Rights law on which it is founded. A politician who criticizes that landmark law-draped in the iconic images of Alabama sit-ins and Martin Luther King, Jr.-commits political suicide.

The only argument brought against ENDA Wednesday is a lesser one-that its wording is ambiguous about churches' protection from homosexual intrusion. This argument was made by Craig Parshall, senior vice-president and general counsel of the National Religious Broadcasters Association. He argued that ENDA could force Christian businesses, including bookstores, to hire homosexuals. His objection is well-founded. The American Jewish community and liberal attack groups heavily pressure President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to force Christian churches to hire homosexuals, at least in all non-spiritual positions.

ENDA is hard to fight if you are Republican unwilling to tell the truth that the lauded Civil Rights Act is unjust and discriminatory.

As a senior in high school in 1964 and throughout college, I opposed the consensus of my time by repeatedly saying the Civil Rights Act should have limited itself to guaranteeing full equality to blacks but not establishing special rights in hiring, education, and housing.

My fellow students and teachers publicly labeled me an uncompassionate bigot and right-wing extremist. I predicted that civil rights laws would not end racial divides; but I never anticipated that sodomites would someday demand and receive the same special privileges afforded minorities.

Still Time to Defeat ENDA

Don't give up on the fight against ENDA! Rep. Dennis Kucinich wants to extend ENDA's jurisdiction down to at least businesses of five or more employees. Your small business could legally be invaded by sexual deviants of every kind. Your church could be significantly staffed by sodomites; your church school could be forced to allow perverted males "transitioning" into females to share your wife or daughter's lavatory or PE showers.

Remember, ENDA is just the beginning. The ADL/homosexual lobbies will soon co-author even more extensive, pro-homosexual "civil rights" bills, especially in real estate, housing, and the military. They will divest American property owners, churches, and citizens of every last shred of privacy and even, ultimately, barriers against sexual predators. Pervasive federal interest in protecting homosexuals on the local level will also overlap into public education programs K-12 designed to prevent attitudes which lead to "hateful, homophobic" discrimination in the workplace.

With ENDA having triumphed a second time in both House and Senate Education and Labor hearings, it is doubtful if Judiciary Committee hearings will be held. The Judiciary Committees, especially concerned with civil rights and the law, are the proper forum to scrutinize ENDA again. Yet, with little opposition, either in Congress or among Christian/conservatives, these bills will probably go forward this fall to mark-up and then vote this winter.

That is unless lovers of freedom revive full-scale opposition.

Continue to call your members of Congress, particularly Republican members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. Demand that the Judiciaries hold ENDA hearings and that Republican Judiciary members fight it vigorously. (Names listed on the action page of http://www.truthtellers.org

Call your members of the House and Senate at 1-877-851-6437 (toll free) warning them that if they vote for this discriminatory legislation you will vote them out at mid-terms next year.

With possible passage of the healthcare reform bill by House and Senate before Christmas, millions of Christian/conservatives may be able to focus on other threats. Let's turn our activism toward the defeat of ENDA. Defeating ENDA is not a lost cause -- not when we consider the dramatic defeat of Democrats this past week in gubernatorial elections. Increasingly, the American people are demonstrating that our potential to deprive the Democrats of their majority in Congress next year is very real. Due to the glut of legislation preoccupying Congress, ENDA will not be voted on this fall. This gives lovers of freedom time to remind Democrats that their efforts to create a false "family-values" image, in anticipation of mid-terms, will be fruitless if they continue to promote its opposite: homosexual values.

Actually, with Democrats in shock over defeat in recent elections, now is the perfect time to add ENDA to the list of issues that will mean political disaster for those who promote them.
