Supporters Fear Facebook Marine Being ‘Disappeared’

Brandon Raub forcibly transferred to psychiatric facility 3 hours away from legal team, family

Supporters of Brandon Raub – the man kidnapped by police and committed to a mental institution for his political posts on Facebook – fear the former Marine is being ‘disappeared’ by authorities after he was forcibly transferred to a psychiatric facility more than three hours away from his family and legal team.

Raub, a former veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, was involuntarily detained for psychiatric questioning last week by authorities in Virginia’s Chesterfield County for leaving anti-establishment messages on Facebook which questioned the official story behind 9/11 and referred to corruption within the U.S. government. The FBI claims Raub’s posts were “terrorist in nature.”
Raub is being held against his will despite not being charged with any crime under a state law that allows people to be temporarily committed for a period of 30 days.
Lawyers working for the Rutherford Institute attempted to file an emergency motion to prevent Raub from being transferred to a psychiatric institution more than three hours away from his friends, family, and legal team, but the motion was denied by Special Justice Walter Douglass Stokes.
“(Raub) is being transferred from John Randolph Psychiatric Medical Hospital in Hopewell to the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va., on the other side of the state,” reports the Rutherford Institute website.
After speaking with Brandon’s brother, Brent Raub, supporter Brian Smith shared concerns amongst those following the case that the former Marine is being ‘disappeared’ by the government as controversy surrounding the incident continues to snowball.
“It would seem that in the government’s infinite wisdom, especially in this time of obscenely massive deficits, that they are going to send him to a Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. That doesn’t sound too bad now does it? How about this then. The hospital that they are sending him to is NOT the one about eight miles away from his home in Richmond. But is instead on the other side of the Commonwealth of Virginia in Roanoke!” writes Smith.
“One question…. Why? This makes absolutely no sense when you consider that since he was “arrested” or “committed” in Chesterfield, that this is the Court of record, and the Court that is SUPPOSED to hear his case at every motion and hearing! Why are they trying to take him so far away from his home. It’s almost like they are trying to make him disappear. Oh, no. Not our benevolent nanny state government. Never.”
Smith added that if more people don’t come to Raub’s aid in publicizing his mistreatment, authorities are more likely to “make him disappear or to “zombify Brandon”.
Lawyers are continuing their efforts to secure Raub’s release on the basis that his speech is protected under the First Amendment and that his detention was conducted unlawfully.
“This is not how justice in America is supposed to work—with Americans being arrested for doing nothing more than exercising their First Amendment rights, forced to undergo psychological evaluations, detained against their will and isolated from their family, friends and attorneys. This is a scary new chapter in our history,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. “Brandon Raub is no different from the majority of Americans who use their private Facebook pages to post a variety of content, ranging from song lyrics and political hyperbole to trash talking their neighbors, friends and government leaders.”
Critics have pointed to Raub’s treatment as an example of how the government is targeting free speech by labeling those who question authority as mentally ill, similar to how secret police in the former Soviet union sent dissidents to psikhushkas to isolate them, discredit their ideas and politically brainwash them.
Raub’s calm and rational response to being kidnapped and committed discredits claims by the government that he represents a danger.
Commenting from hospital, Raub said, “It’s ironic, I was considering re-enlisting, I’ve really enjoyed the six years I spent as a reserve and the two and a half years I spent on active duty.”
“I’ve been very open with the things I’ve had to say on my wall on Facebook. It’s interesting to me that the Government is watching Facebook in the first place. That ought to raise some eyebrows and cause some good American citizens some concern,” he added.Facebook pages in support of Raub have surged in popularity as the case serves to re-iterate the painful reminder that America is fast turning into a police state where people who express anti-establishment opinions are treated as thought criminals and domestic extremists.

Former Marine Indefinitely Detained In Psychiatric Ward Over 9/11 Facebook Posts

    Washington’s Blog
    Aug 21, 2012

Former marine Brandon Raub was carted off by the Feds and locked in a psychiatric ward for his Facebook posts questioning the government’s version of 9/11.

Raub isn’t the first person who has suffered this fate. Claire Swinney was also held in a psychiatric ward and called “delusional” for claiming government liability for 9/11. Others have been committed for the same reason over the last decade.

Surely the Feds are right … that kind of talk is crazy, right?

Maybe. But many of the 9/11 Commissioners themselves don’t buy what the government says about 9/11, they say that the government has covered up the state sponsorship of the 9/11 hijackers, and Al Qaeda flying planes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon was entirely foreseeable .

Indeed, while they obviously haven’t said that the government was involved, 9/11 Commissioners have said we need further investigation and that the American people should question 9/11. Does that mean they should they be committed to the same psych ward which Mr. Raub and Ms. Swinney enjoyed? Of course not.

Some people believe that 9/11 was wholly unforeseeable. Others believe that government personnel were criminally negligent in letting 9/11 happen, and then obstructed justice to cover it up. See this, this, this, this, and this. Still others believe that rogue government personnel allowed 9/11 to happen, or even played a role in the attacks themselves.

Whatever one believes about 9/11, isn’t our society built on freedom of speech? And if someone has kooky theories, won’t the scientific method and free debate defeat the baseless theories? Isn’t that what modern society is all about?

Raub’s attorney – the head of the non-partisan civil rights law firm The Rutherford Institute – points outthat Raub is being indefinitely detained, and says:
For government officials to not only arrest Brandon Raub for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment rights but to actually force him to undergo psychological evaluations and detain him against his will goes against every constitutional principle this country was founded upon. This should be a wake-up call to Americans that the police state is here.”

What Do Mental Health Professionals Say About Those Who Question 9/11?

Many sociologists and mental health professionals say that those who believe the official version without any questioning are the ones suffering from psychological defense mechanisms.

Sociologists say that fear of terrorism has made people blindly accept false justifications for war – including the false claim that Saddam had a hand in 9/11 (when even the 9/11 Commission says he didn’t).

And the following mental health professionals say that questioning the government’s cut-and-dried version of 9/11 is the sane thing to do:

    • Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Duke University Medical Center, as well as Radiology, at Duke University Medical Center D. Lawrence Burk, Jr., MD

    • Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor of Psychology and Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Rutgers University Barry R. Komisaruk

    • Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy, Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine and Distinguished Professor of Global Health in the College of Public Health, University of South Florida, Michael D. Knox

    • Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Laura Schafer

    • Professor Emeritus, Psychology and Neuroscience, Beckman Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Michael Gabriel

    • Former Chief Mental Health Coordinator and Director of Manpower Development and Training, Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, and Lecturer in Psychology, Boston University Herbert Hoffman

    • Professor of Psychology, University of Chicago and Northwestern University Jack Sawyer

    • Professor Emeritus of Psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies Ralph Metzner

    • Professor Emeritus, Psychology, University of Marburg Gert Sommer

    • Professor of Psychology, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Ralph Hood

    • Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Jefferson Medical College. Former Major, U.S. Army Medical Corps, Vietnam Veteran 7 years service, Jon Bjornson, MD

    • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska and licensed Psychologist Ronald Feintech

There are many other mental health professionals who agree.

Why Are Some Psychologists So Dogmatic?

Russian psychiatrists famously aided Stalin in applying fake insanity diagnoses to political dissenters.

Similarly, American apologists for the powers-that-be are eager to label anyone “taking a cynical stance toward politics, mistrusting authority, endorsing democratic practices, … and displaying an inquisitive, imaginative outlook” as worthy of a trip to the insane asylum. (Those traits may also get one labeled as a potential terrorist.)

But most mental health professionals who assume that those who question 9/11 are crazy are simply victims of the the “Martha Mitchell Effect”:
The process by which a psychiatrist, psychologist, or other mental health clinician mistakes the patient’s perception of real events as delusional and misdiagnoses accordingly.
The authors of a paper on this phenomenon (Bell, V., Halligan, P.W., Ellis, H.D. (2003) Beliefs About Delusions. The Psychologist, 6 (, 418-422) conclude:
Sometimes, improbable reports are erroneously assumed to be symptoms of mental illness [due to a] failure or inability to verify whether the events have actually taken place, no matter how improbable intuitively they might appear to the busy clinician.
In other words, psychologists who haven’t taken the time to examine for themselves the claims of their patients will tend to label as delusional anything which they “intuitively” feel is improbable.

As such, psychologists and psychiatrists are just as prone to acting out their irrational prejudices as anyone else … unless they take the time to investigate and educate themselves.

Postscript: We do not condone violence. Virtually all those who question the government’s version of 9/11 are peaceful, non-violent folks.

Former Marine Held in Psychiatric Hospital Over Facebook Posts Questioning Govt.

    Written by Michael Tennant

    “The police state is here.”

Thus spoke John Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute, in reference to the arrest and involuntary commitment of former U.S. Marine Brandon J. Raub (pictured) of Chesterfield County, Virginia. On August 16, Raub was visited at his home by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Chesterfield County police because of alleged complaints about Raub’s Facebook posts, many of which questioned the received wisdom from Washington, D.C., and a few of which suggested violence. According to the Rutherford Institute, which is defending Raub, police and FBI agents “did not provide Raub with a search warrant,” but he nevertheless “was cooperative and agreed to speak with them.”

“Without providing any explanation, levying any charges against Raub or reading him his rights, law enforcement officials then handcuffed Raub and transported him first to the police headquarters, then to John Randolph Medical Center, where he was held against his will,” wrote the Institute.

Chesterfield County Police Chief Col. Theirry Depuis told the Associated Press that Raub was detained “upon the recommendation of mental health crisis intervention workers,” who apparently considered dangerous the Marine sergeant who served honorably in Iraq and Afghanistan and who, according to Richmond television station WTVR, has a “clean” criminal history and “no mental health history.” Under Virginia’s emergency custody statute, an individual can be subjected to civil detention and psychiatric evaluation if he is considered a threat to himself or others.

At a hearing before a special justice on August 20, Raub was asked about his Facebook posts.

“He had an opportunity to share and respond to the questions being asked him about his Facebook posts,” his mother, Cathleen Thomas, told WTVR.

“He responded and explained himself, and the judge also allowed me to give some facts and basically a character representation of my son, which I did. And then he proceeded to read the (mental health) evaluation that was given on Brandon. The evaluation, I was told by my son, was 15 minutes long, and basically the evaluator said that he was not ready to go back into society and he needed additional psychiatric treatment.”

And with that, the special justice ordered Raub’s continued detention at a Veterans Administration hospital for up to 30 more days.

“For government officials to not only arrest Brandon Raub for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment rights but to actually force him to undergo psychological evaluations and detain him against his will goes against every constitutional principle this country was founded upon. This should be a wake-up call to Americans that the police state is here,” Whitehead said. “Brandon Raub is no different from the majority of Americans who use their private Facebook pages to post a variety of content, ranging from song lyrics and political hyperbole to trash talking their neighbors, friends and government leaders.”

Indeed, as WTVR noted, “Raub’s postings seem no different than those questioning the government’s version of the 9/11 [attacks] or the role of the Federal Reserve. He believes the government is corrupt and ready to fall, which is why he has a home business dealing in silver coins.”

A November 2011 post entitled “The Truth” that Thomas supplied to WTVR bears out these assertions. “America has lost itself,” Raub begins. He lays out a positive vision of the United States:
This is the land where you can start from the bottom and get to the top. This is the land where regardless of you [sic] race and ethnicity you can succeed and build a better life for you and your family. This is the land where every race coexists peacefully. This is the land where justice wins. This is the land where liberty dwells. This is the land where freedom reigns. This is the land where we help the poor, and people help each other. This is [the] land where people beat racism.
Then he lists those things he believes have sent America down the wrong path: the Federal Reserve, the income tax, the wars and empire-building, the “systematic[] dismantl[ing]” of the Bill of Rights; 9/11 (an “inside job” by the government, in his opinion) and all that followed from it; politicians beholden to special interests and “brainwashed through the Council on Foreign Relations.”

“There is hope,” Raub concludes. “WE MUST TAKE OUR REPUBLIC BACK.”

In the entire missive, there is not one suggestion of violent revolution. In fact, he very specifically denounces the use of force. (His brother, Brent Raub, told WTVR that Brandon “doesn’t even own a gun.”)

Authorities have released a couple of examples of Raub’s posts that suggest violence. At least one of them — “Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads” — comes from a rap song. Others were “trash talk” among friends playing an online game, Raub told the special justice.

“The posts I read that supposedly were of concern were libertarian-type posts I see all the time,” Whitehead told the AP.

So why was the FBI investigating run-of-the-mill online speech, and why has Raub been committed to a psychiatric hospital for a month because of it?

“We received quite a few complaints about what were perceived as threatening posts,” FBI spokeswoman Dee Rybiski told the AP. “Given the circumstances with the things that have gone on in the country with some of these mass shootings, it would be horrible for law enforcement not to pay attention to complaints.”

Whitehead wasn’t buying it. He told the AP that “some of the posts in question were made on a closed Facebook page that Raub had recently created so he questioned whether anyone from the public would have complained about them.” In his opinion, adds the news service, the government may well be “monitoring citizens’ private Facebook pages and detaining people with whom they disagree.”

Even worse, those who get on the government’s bad side can end up being sent to mental hospitals until they come around to the “correct” opinions. As Christopher Manion observed on the LewRockwell.com blog: “Be sure to re-read 1984, especially O’Brien's ‘medicating’ of Winston in the Ministry of Love, and Cancer Ward, Solzhenitsyn’s account of the psychiatric torture that political prisoners endured under the Soviet system.”

Fortunately, Raub’s plight has generated a great deal of outrage among informed Americans. Cellphone video of his cuffing and stuffing — not an “arrest,” authorities insist, though there’s no other way to describe it — quickly went viral. As of this writing, the Support Brandon Raub Facebook group has over 8,000 members. Internet commentary about Raub’s situation has been overwhelmingly in his favor. Even some who disagree with Raub’s sentiments, including one “lifelong progressive” with “Marxist tendencies” at DailyKos.com, are disturbed by his treatment.

“Our views are very strong because we are patriots,” Thomas told WTVR. “Our stance in this family is to question everything ... when we lose the right to be able to stand up and say how we feel, no matter what it’s about, I think that we need to be very concerned. Because what it speaks to me is that they’re trying to shut people up. They’re trying to squelch the message.”

With family, friends, and much of the public on Raub’s side, his message of liberty will not easily be squelched.

MESSAGE FROM STEWART RHODES, FOUNDER OF OATH KEEPERS:

Oath Keepers is coming to the aid of this young Marine veteran and our rallying cry will be "CHARGE HIM, OR RELEASE HIM." We cannot allow "mental illness" designations to be used as a weapon against political dissidents in America.

See the below article by Brandon Smith for the disturbing facts regarding the use of mental health detention against Virginia Marine veteran Brandon Raub because of his constitutionally protected free speech on his Facebook page.

As Brandon Smith illustrates, this is exactly what the Soviet Union did to dissidents who dared to criticize the communist regime - they were labeled "insane" and carted off to mental wards.

Now it has begun here in America.

This is a blatant circumvention of constitutional criminal due process which is every bit as dangerous as being designated an "unlawful combatant" under the NDAA and taken away to a military brig for detention without charges. How is this any different? Mental health detention can be used in exactly the same way.

This is an incredibly dangerous crossing of a critical line in the sand - the politicization of the mental health system, using it as a weapon against dissidents to punish them for their constitutionally protected political speech. This case is the camel's nose under the tent, and we need to stomp on it HARD, right now. And we will.

Brandon Raub has very competent local legal counsel provided by the Rutherford Institute.

If you would like to donate to his legal defense, go to https://www.rutherford.org/donate/ and be sure to add a note that your donation is for the Raub case.

Oath Keepers has offered to write an amicus brief if the Rutherford attorneys think it will help, but our primary goal is to compliment their legal efforts with as many boots on the ground as we can muster to go there in person and rally in outspoken support of this brother veteran. While the case is being tried in the legal courts, we will try it in the court of public opinion and bring as much public pressure to bear as possible.

Last night, Oath Keepers leadership, including both national and Virginia Oath Keepers leaders, spoke with Attorney John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute and also with Brandon Raub's Mother, Cathleen Thomas. We will be coordinating closely both with his legal team and with his family to support Brandon in any way possible.

    The Disappearance Of Brandon Raub

August 24, 2012 by Bob Livingston

The state tried to make former Marine Brandon Raub “disappear.”

After being handcuffed and carted away from his Virginia home by the FBI, Secret Service and Chesterfield Police Department on Aug. 16, Raub was confined in the John Randolph Psychiatric Medical Hospital where he was given a mental evaluation.

On Aug. 20, he was sentenced to up to 30 more days further confinement and ordered by a special judge to a Veteran’s Hospital more than three hours from his home — far away from his family and his legal team — even though a similar facility is about eight miles from his home.

The FBI, Secret Service and police admit Raub has committed no crime. They simply didn’t like his Facebook posts calling 9/11 an inside job, accusing the Bush family of crimes and warning of a coming revolution.

Raub thought he was protecting America’s freedoms when served his two tours of duty in the Mideast. He’s learning that America is no longer the land of the free and the elites have no patience for dissent.

Speech is supposed to be protected — especially speech that makes people uncomfortable. But that is no longer the case in America.

A judge ordered Raub released yesterday, a week after he was dragged from his home. The petition filed by his persecutors was blank and didn’t list a single allegation against him. The judge said Raub suffered a “deprivation of his liberty” by being held without a clear claim.

Free speech received a temporary reprieve. Raub lost seven days of his life.

‘Orwellian’: Lawyer of Former Marine Detained Over Facebook Posts Says 20K ‘Civil Commitments’ in VA Each Year Part of Bigger Problem

The 26-year-old former Marine detained for making controversial Facebook posts is back home at last. However, the fight to figure out exactly what happened — and what may be happening all across the country — has just begun.
Brandon Raub was scooped up in Richmond, Va. by federal and local law enforcement officials on Aug. 16 for making anti-government Facebook posts referring to “revolution” and statements that questioned the official story behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, said John Whitehead, Raub’s lead attorney and president of the Rutherford Institute. He was then sentenced to up to 30 days in a psychiatric facility on Aug. 20 — no trial, no arrest warrant, no charges filed. He was finally released on Thursday.
    Some of his posts include:

    • “The revolution is upon us”
    • “Sharpen my axe, I’m here to sever heads” (From Canadian rap song)
    • Remarks promoting the 9/11 “truther” argument

“They are doing it under a law in Virginia, a civil commitment law” Whitehead told TheBlaze in an exclusive interview. And there are similar laws in other states all over the United States, he explained. However, according to Va. Code § 37.2-808, the statute in question, a person can be civilly committed if a magistrate judge has probable cause that any person:

    • Has a mental illness and that there exists a substantial likelihood that, as a result of mental illness, the person will, in the near future, (a) cause serious physical harm to himself or others as evidenced by recent behavior causing, attempting, or threatening harm and other relevant information, if any, or (b) suffer serious harm due to his lack of capacity to protect himself from harm or to provide for his basic human needs.
    • Is in need of hospitalization or treatment, and (iii) is unwilling to volunteer or incapable of volunteering for hospitalization or treatment. Any emergency custody order entered pursuant to this section shall provide for the disclosure of medical records pursuant to § 37.2-804.2. This subsection shall not preclude any other disclosures as required or permitted by law.

Whitehead doesn’t believe his client meets any of the criteria needed for a civil commitment and argues Raub is anything but “mentally ill.” He says they haven‘t seen the psychiatric institute’s so-called “evaluations” but his legal team plans on having Raub evaluated by an independent psychiatrist from the University of Virginia.
    Part of a Bigger Problem?
The incident raises a larger question: Is Raub’s case — whether you agree with his positions or not — cause for greater concern? Whitehead says yes.
Every year in Virginia, more than 20,000 people are detained for civil commitment and whisked away just like Raub, the attorney said. In fact, in Chesterfield County, where Raub was taken from his home, there have been 20 civil commitments in the past month alone, he added.
The civil commitment statistics are confirmed by documents found on the Virginia Supreme Court’s website. You can read it here (page 36, paragraph 1). The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services did not respond to TheBlaze’s request for comment in time for this report. However, TheBlaze is working to get some clarification on whether the 20,000 figure is up or down from previous years or if the number is a normal average as well as some state-by-state comparisons.
“I knew there were civil commitments but I thought they were rare,” Whitehead told TheBlaze. “There has to be something more here than meets the eye. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Whitehead continued: “I doubt that most of these people are dangerous. Because if there are 20,000 plus crazy people that need to be taken away by police in Virginia each year, then we are facing a national epidemic that should be on the front page of every newspaper and it isn’t. No one even knows about it, that’s the point.”
He raises a good point. Obviously, there are instances where local and federal law enforcement would be justified in executing a civil detainment order. For example, if someone is threatening to commit a mass shooting or making threats against someone’s life, the police are obligated to intervene. And they would be able to because they would have probable cause.
“If someone goes on Facebook with a gun and does a video like that crazy guy did at Virginia tech and said he’s going to shoot somebody, sure the police should arrive and they would have probable cause to arrest him,” the constitutional lawyer explained.
But he says Raub made no terrorist-like threats or statements. However, he admitted that Raub posted some controversial song lyrics and 9/11 “truther” statements, but added that there’s no law against that.
“The government infiltrated his private Facebook group. They were playing a game called “Dear Illuminati,” they were quoting song lyrics and saying other silly things — he’s 26 years old.”
Take a look at all of Raub’s Facebook posts here and decide for yourself whether the police and FBI acted appropriately.
    Some of his posts include:

When asked how many of the 20,000 plus civil commitments each year in Virginia may be legitimate versus how many are unjustified, Whitehead said it’s too soon to tell.
“We are investigating it right now. We just learned that yesterday and announced it on [Glenn Beck's] show,” he said.
However, that again raises the question: If there really are more than 20,000 civil commitments in Virginia each year alone and each one is legitimate and justified as the government will likely argue, wouldn’t that mean that there is a national epidemic of mental illness in the state, if not the entire country?
“It should be something that Congress should be concerned about and the president,” Whitehead said. “And obviously, they are not.”
Even if we speculate that the remaining 49 states in the U.S. see only 5,000 civil commitments a year — 15,000 less than Virginia — we are still talking about roughly 265,000 cases of civil commitment each year in the U.S., which would arguably be a situation in need of immediate attention by the nation’s lawmakers.
He also reiterated that the Rutherford Institute is getting flooded with calls, many of them from military veterans, who say they have been victims of involuntary civil commitments like Raub’s: “What I’m getting from veterans is, they say they are getting picked up by the FBI, mainly for 9/11 ‘truther’ statements.”
While believing that the U.S. government intentionally coordinated the attacks on the world trade center in 2001 is objectionable, this is still America and even those we disagree with have the right to free speech under the U.S. Constitution. That‘s arguably why the nation’s founders made it Amendment number one.
And that’s the point Glenn Beck made on radio on Friday:
    ‘Civil Commitment
Beck raises the valid point that Occupy Wall Street protestors and organizers regularly call for the overthrow of the U.S. government and revolution, which the host calls “treason.” Yet, there aren’t any reported cases of federal agents snatching an Occupier up in the middle of the night. While Raub is quoting rap songs, there are some people that are literally calling for a violent uprising here in the United States that arguably requires the attention of our government.
The Constitution also comes into play regarding the way Raub was arrested by police, said Whitehead.
“Before the police arrive and put their hands on you, they are supposed to have, under the Fourth Amendment, credible evidence that you are doing something illegal,” he said. “In the Brandon Raub situation, they told him he had committed no crime, they’re not charging him with any crime. In fact, the day they took him in they said ‘well, we’re not charging this guy with any crime, it’s just his Facebook Posts.”
This is exactly what happened in the old Soviet Union and Nazi Germany — same scenario,” Whitehead added. “It’s Orwellian. Here you are picked up in the middle of the night by police taken to a mental institution and they say, well you are going to be here, so you want to do it voluntarily here or involuntarily.”
And that’s exactly what he argues happened to his client.
After initially taking him to the police station, police then transported Raub to a psychiatric facility in Salem, Va. There, Whitehead explained, officials said he could do things the easy way, and voluntarily commit himself, or the hard way and be involuntarily committed. Raub chose the latter, saying he doesn’t belong in a psych ward and was then subjected to psychiatric evaluation over the next several days, his attorney says.
But that was just the beginning of Raub’s nightmare in the facility. On Thursday prior to his release, Raub phoned his attorney and told him that one of the psychiatrists he had been seeing threatened to “brainwash” him and force him on medication if he didn’t follow orders.
“He said, ‘I’m really a little worried,’” Whitehead said, referring to Raub. “A psychiatrist came in and closed the door, pulled a chair up in front of him and said, ‘OK buddy, I’m going to brainwash you… You listen to me and you do what I ask or I’m going to brainwash you or force medication on you.’”
And though Whitehead wouldn‘t provide the doctor’s name to TheBlaze, he said they have it on file and are planning to include the doctor in question in their civil lawsuit on behalf of Raub. “We’re investigating him,” he said.
Still, Whitehead said the bigger issue are the thousands of people who are being “disappeared” every month in Virginia and across the nation.
“Who’s disappearing? We don’t know,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for 40 years, the government covers their tracks and they don’t tell the truth most of the time, unfortunately.”
Brandon Raub was released on Thursday. He has not been charged with a crime, nor do the police plan to do so, according to his attorney.
Whitehead said his opinion is that the government is doing this nationally, rounding up people, while also directly targeting military veterans and other “right-wing extremists” according to a previous DHS report.
