The French Are Revolting Against Macron’s Carbon Tax

    Nov 26, 2018

RUSH: I saw a story about massive protests in France. Riots, tear gas, fires, shots, all kinds of horrible things going on in Paris on the Champs-Elysees. I said to myself, “What’s this?” Well, this is one of the stories that qualifies for a busy, long weekend of news suppression. How many news reports have you seen from the Drive-By Media about the protests in France?
They’ve been going on all over France for more than a week. How many of you have seen anything about this? You may have in the last couple of days, but, even if you’ve seen the reports in the last couple of days, you still don’t know what it’s really all about.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I guarantee you, you don’t know why these riots in Paris and all over France are taking place, even though they’re being reported on finally, been going on for over a week, the news just hit I think on Sunday, maybe Saturday. I think it was yesterday. It didn’t make the news until yesterday when we finally had footage of fires on the Champs-Elysees. Right next to the Arch of Triumph, for those of you in Rio Linda, the Arc de Triomphe, for the rest of you. By the way, the Arc de Triomphe is where the guillotines were stationed during the height of the French Revolution. Just a little trivia there.

But here’s the kicker. This is what the Drive-By Media refused to call these protests what they are. They said the French were protesting fuel prices. They said the French are protesting fuel prices and the rising cost of living. That’s only 20% of it. You know what the French are really protesting?
The protests are against a massive carbon tax implemented by this young socialist Millennial president over there who believes climate change and all this rotgut, and so he’s trying to price the usage of gasoline and fossil fuels out of existence! A gallon of gas costs over seven bucks because of this new carbon tax. That’s why they’re protesting. They’re protesting because this president believes all this cockamamie bull about climate change and fossil fuels and believes it we’ve gotta get on to wind and solar and nuclear and so he’s got this carbon tax.
Exactly what the left wants to do here! It is a forerunner, it is an advance look at what could happen here. It’s exactly what the left around the world wants to do. This is what the media is not telling. The media’s not telling you it’s related climate change. The media is not telling you it’s related to a carbon tax. They just say rising fuel prices, cost of living. The protests are specifically against a carbon tax that Emmanuel Macron has imposed on gasoline and diesel. And he did it in the name of fighting climate change.
What the tax has done is raised the price of a gallon of gasoline in Paris to $7.06. It has raised the price of diesel by over 30 cents a gallon, and that makes it nearly as expensive as gasoline is. And this is just the beginning, because this carbon tax is slated to increase each and every year. This is what happened to nations who stayed in the Paris Accord. This is what Donald Trump withdrew the United States from. This idiot says he’s got to make good on the French promises and commitments they made to reduce their carbon footprint in the Paris accords.
But he believes it! He’s one of these idiots that believes this cockamamie bull about climate change and the end of the earth, and there’s a related story that the Trump administration knowingly lied to the American people. The administration, the Trump administration tried to hide a devastating new climate change report by issuing it on the day after Thanksgiving. And it’s a horrible set of circumstances that we now face.

Once again, for about the 30th time in the last 30 years, we only have 10 years. This is it. This is about the 25th last chance that we’ve got to stave off the usage of climate change fossil fuels. If we don’t act in 10 years, meaning if we don’t have a left-wing, socialist world government in 10 years, then the earth is not gonna be exist anymore as it exists now, maybe not be able to support life. And you’ve got a whole bunch of Neanderthals, brain-dead, maleducated people believing this garbage, including this little fruitcake that’s running Paris and running France.

This is what Trump pulled us out of. Now, it is not all nations that signed the Paris accords are actually acting on their commitments. Most of them are smart enough to know that it’s all BS, but this guy is a true believer. And he’s not backing down from it. And this is exactly what would be happening in the United States if our signatory status to the Paris accords had remained and if we had an administration that bought hook, line, and sinker this whole climate change hoax.
We have more oil in the world today than we’ve ever had, despite how much of it we’ve used. The earth continues to manufacture it, even though it’s called fossil fuels. Ask your average brain-dead American graduate of public school, high school, what a fossil fuel is. You know what you’ll hear? “It’s gasoline from dinosaurs, and that’s why there’s a shortage because the dinosaurs are dead, and they’ve been dead in a while. Pretty soon we’re gonna run off fossil fuels, and then won’t be able to make any more oil.”
And that’s what they’ve been taught; that’s what they believe. That’s why the use of fossil fuels to describe oil, well, oil still being manufactured, but we don’t have any dinosaurs, do we? And we don’t have a lot of things that are being fossilized, do we? How’s oil still be created? The earth is still doing it, ocean floor and elsewhere. We’re finding new ways to go get it. There is no crisis.
The most advanced economy in the world, the most clean nation in the world, the most advanced standard of living in the world lives on oil. That would be us. The most economically depressed areas of the world are now being denied their chance to use oil in modern-day petroleum products to modernize their economies, all because of a quest for global government. It’s not any more complicated than that.

And this has been going on in France for a week now. And all you’re hearing is French citizens are angry over rising fuel prices, and the French president, Emmanuel Macron, is holding steady. You are not being told the half of it. And ditto this Brexit business.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPTS
RUSH: Let me finish my thought or close the loop here on this climate change report that — aw, man, the tech blogs are just ecstatic. They think they’ve got Trump now. Trump tried to suppress the most devastating — these people, and not just the tech blog Millennials, everybody that believes this wants to believe in the biggest bunch of doom and gloom. It’s amazing! They want disaster! And any time news is produced that counters the belief that we’re not headed to disaster, they get mad.
Anyway, we got 10 years. And literally for about the 20th time in 30 years, we’ve got 10 years. But this latest report says if we don’t fix things in 10 years, then by the end of the century – do you know how few of us are gonna be alive by the end of the century? They haven’t the slightest idea what they are talking about! They purposefully say that all these disasters are gonna happen so far out that nobody’s gonna be around to prove or disapprove it. It’s a series of lies and political BS that is progressing geometrically ’cause they can’t convince people to believe it; so they keep coming up with new scare tactics, and that’s all this latest one is.
    BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Another question: Why did the Trump administration release a climate report? Well, Trump didn’t. His administration did. That opens another can of worms. But I’m not disheartened, folks. I’m ticked off, but I’m not disheartened. Don’t confuse the two.

Macron is a disaster: Approval rating drops to new low of 23%

By Laura Cat 1 December 2018

President Emanuel Macron seems to be taking the lead balloon approach to popularity. His approval rating has been in free-fall and has dropped another (-3) to a shockingly new low of 23 per cent in Viavoice’s 29 November poll.
In fact, as a favour to Mr. Macron, I will share the only number of his that is on the incline, his DISAPPROVAL rating is skyrocketing to 69 per cent!
Perhaps 2019 will be a better year for the floundering and beleaguered French President. With the Yellow Vest movement in full swing, in fact, inspiring similar movements in other European countries, one has to wonder what it is that Macron is not seeing.
The only numbers increasing are Yellow Vest numbers, working-class protesters fighting back against the elites in government, the movement originating in France protesting Macron’s rise in fuel tax and calling for his resignation, but swiftly spreading to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Perhaps it wasn’t his best decision to, at the centennial Remembrance Day celebration – the day to remember those who lay down their lives for their nation, the ultimate nationalists – to state that ‘nationalism’ is treason.

Paris Protests: Macron Ally Worries ‘Crisis’ Runs Deeper than Gas Prices

    334

    AP Photo/Thibault Camus24 Nov 2018428
    2:42

Allies of French president Emmanuel Macron say they have yet to grasp why protesters are “seething anger” over the government’s plans to hike gas prices, while one lawmaker worries the “crisis” runs deeper than the cost of fuel.

Anti-government protesters clashed with French police on the Champs-Elysees in Paris on Saturday, leaving the area cloaked in tear gas and smoke from fires on a fresh day of demonstrations against Macron. Demonstrators wearing the yellow, high-visibility vests that symbolize their movement threw projectiles at police, preventing them from moving along the famed shopping avenue, which was decked out in twinkling Christmas lights.
“They’re expressing a seething anger, which we know about,” parliamentary deputy and Macron ally Thomas Mesnier said, as quoted by the New York Times. “People are waiting for results, and they are waiting for their daily lives to improve.”
Nicolas Démoulin, another ally of the embattled president, called the “Yellow Jacket” protests “a movement without precedent,” adding that lawmakers “don’t have a good diagnosis of it.”
“We’ve got to go to these citizens who feel they are completely shut out of politics,” he added.
Benjamin Griveaux, described as one of Marcon’s closest allies, said in a Friday interview with French television that the “the crisis is deeper than just over the price of gas,” — however — “one must never set the environmental fight up against social justice.”

Police arrested 130 people, 69 of those in Paris, and 24 people were injured – five of them police officers, including one who suffered burns to his groin, the city police department and Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said. The interior ministry counted 106,000 protesters across France on Saturday, with 8,000 in Paris, of whom around 5,000 were on the Champs-Elysees.

Revolts against taxes have been a feature of French public life for centuries. Citizens still pay some of the highest taxes in Europe as a percentage of GDP, and fuel-price protests are a common modern occurrence.
Previous rounds pitting the government against drivers took place in 1995, 2000, 2004, and 2008 – often when tax increases coincided with high oil prices — as they have this year.
A poll by the Odoxa research group for Le Figaro newspaper this week found that 77 percent of respondents described it as “justified.”
The Agence France-Presse contributed to this report.

‘Taxes, Taxes And Taxes’: Paris Suffers Worst Riot In A Decade As Anti-Macron Protests Roil France

11:57 AM 12/02/2018 | Video Chris White | Energy Reporter

France weathered its worst riots in more than a decade Saturday as “yellow jacket” protesters continue turning parts of Paris upside down over concerns related to high gas taxes and the high cost of living.
French riot police closed popular tourist areas and fired tear gas as they tried to quell the chaos in the streets. At least 110 people were injured while protesters associated with the grassroots-driven demonstrations clashed with authorities and vandalized the Arc de Triomphe.
Much of the anguish stems from citizens’ disdain for French President Emmanuel Macron’s high gas taxes and overall war on fossil fuels. The beleaguered president denounced the violence in a statement crafted during the G-20 summit in Argentina.

″(Violence) has nothing to do with the peaceful expression of a legitimate anger” and “no cause justifies” attacks on police, Macron said Saturday night in Buenos Aires. The violence contrasted with protests from elsewhere in the country where “yellow jacket” demonstrators peacefully protested and erected road blockades.
Paris police said at least 110 people, including 20 police officers, were injured in the violent protests, which originated Saturday morning near the Arc de Triomphe and continued into the night.
Protesters meanwhile continue to air their grievances. “It’s difficult to reach the end of the month. People work and pay a lot of taxes and we are fed up,” Rabah Mendez, a protester who came from the French suburbs to protest in Paris, told The Associated Press.

“Our purchasing power is severely diminishing every day. And then: taxes, taxes and taxes,” Paris resident Hedwige Lebrun told reporters. “The state is asking us to tighten our belts, but they, on the contrary, live totally above all standards with our money.”
Macron enacted sky-high gas taxes to tackle what he believes could doom humanity within the next decade: global warming. But many French citizens see them as an example of the French president’s inability to understand the plight of the country’s working class.
The price of gas rose in January by 7.6 cents per liter in France and the price of diesel by 3.84 cents. To put that into perspective, 3.8 liters of fuel is equivalent to about 1 gallon of gasoline in the U.S. Europe is on the warpath against gas-powered vehicles. (RELATED: Denmark Wants To Ban Gas-Powered Cars, Even Hybrids)
Denmark’s government presented a plan in October to ding all such vehicles by 2035. The plan is to curb vehicle pollution and combat climate change. Macron, for his part, issued a freeze on any new oil and gas leases in 2017 and intends to ban all oil and gas drilling by 2040.

    Flyover Culture

France is experiencing its worst rioting in 50 years as middle-class Parisians are revolting against prohibitively high fuel taxes President Macron enacted to push climate change policies.
The leftist media is hardly covering this grass-roots uprising against the failed globalist policies.
Stay tuned. This is just getting started.

Macron On Edge As Up To 120,000 Angry "Yellow Vests" Prepare To Storm The Bastille

    Mon, 12/03/2018 - 15:05
    948 SHARES

French President Emmanuel Macron may institute emergency tax cuts in an attempt to stem violent protests which have gripped France for three weeks, according to Bloomberg.
The government is increasingly worried that the economy, alongside its own political fortunes, is threatened by demonstrations against fuel taxes that have spiraled into a push-back against Macron’s policies.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the impact of the riots was “severe,” and left a meeting of finance ministers in Brussels to return to Paris for crisis talks with colleagues. -Bloomberg

In order to make the tax cuts work, the French government will need to find ways to cut spending that doesn't hobble growth, as well as tax measures that will stimulate the economy.
For Macron, the stakes are high as he doesn’t want to damage the credibility he needs to push for reforms in Europe. The European Commission has already said his existing budget is at risk of non-compliance with EU rules.
According to Marc Touati, economist and president of business consultancy ACDEFI, Macron may be forced to take a more radical approach, even if that means the deficit slipping a bit. -Bloomberg
The protests have crippled revenues across the country, with some large supermarkets seeing drops as much as 25 percent. Hotel bookings have suffered a similar fate.

Toll-road operators Vinci SA and Eiffage SA meanwhile have seen their share prices decline as they have opened toll booths to let cars pass freely.
Whatever Macron has planned, he better act fast - as there are currently 15,000 angry French Yellow Vests signed up for next Saturday's protests in Paris; three times as many as last weekend, while 104,000 are a "maybe."

    ***
Leaders of the so-called "Yellow Vest" movement have rejected demands to negotiate with the French government after President Emmanuel Macron ordered his prime minister to hold discussions, according to AFP. Macron and top officials are now in full damage control mode amid the most violent protests France has seen since 1968.

Approximately 136,000 demonstrators donning yellow reflective vests were recorded across France on Saturday - of which approximately 5,500 protested in the French capital according to the interior ministry. The previous weekend saw 166,000 demonstrators, and 282,000 the week before that.

This is France right now. You’ve heard media rip Trump for having a mid 40’s approval rating yet they’ve celebrated Macron like he’s a beloved world leader when he has a 27% approval and his country is rioting. The media may love him but the people don’t.

According to the interior ministry, 412 people were arrested in during Saturday's violent clashes in the French capital, while 263 people were injured. The worst hit areas were the wealthy west and central Paris, where stores were smashed and looted, dozens of cars were burnt, and police forces were overwhelmed by Yellow Vest protesters.

Amid the chaos, an 80-year-old woman was killed in Marseille when a police tear-gas canister was launched into her apartment window while she was trying to close the shutters. She was taken to a nearby hospital but died during an operation after suffering shock, according to a local media report. She has become the third casualty in the demonstrations which began three weeks ago.

On Monday, Macron held an urgent security meeting - after which ministers said that while "no options have been ruled out," they had not discussed a state of emergency as had been previously reported.

Conservative leader Marine Le Pen who attended the meeting warned that Macron could become the first French president to order troops to open fire on his own people in 50 years, and that he should abandon his plan to raise taxes on fuel while lowering gas and electricity prices.
The demonstrations, meanwhile, have had a noted effect on business in the region.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire met with business representatives to assess the damage caused to businesses over the weekend.
"The impact is severe and ongoing," Mr Le Maire told the AFP news agency.
Some retailers had seen sales drop by around 20-40% during the demonstrations, while some restaurants had lost 20-50% of their takings, he added. -BBC
The protests have continued into Monday according to the BBC, which reports that about 50 Yellow Vest protesters blocked access to a major fuel depot in the port city of Fos-sur-Mer, which is close to Marseille - while gas stations across France have run out of fuel after restrictions on purchases were instated.
As if things weren't bad enough for Macron, on Monday French private ambulance drivers staged further demonstrations against several healthcare and social security reforms which they say could affect their jobs.

Dozens of trucks formed a blockade from Paris's Place de la Concorde to the French National Assembly.
One protester told the Reuters news agency: "[The reforms] will bludgeon us financially and destroy our companies. We're going to have to fire people, that's for sure."
It is unclear if the ambulance drivers are part of the Yellow Vest movement - however recent polls have shown that most of France supports their cause.
Similiar protests have broken out around Europe, as Yellow Vest demonstrations have spread to Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands.
