REYNOSA - Tamaulipas state police have identified a man found executed earlier this week and publicly dumped near the city's east side.

Investigators discovered the body of Rogelio Centeno Garcia just before noon Thursday along a highway. He had been blindfolded, handcuffed and shot four times in the head.

His assailants left a sign leaning against his body warning in Spanish that "This is what happens to those who point fingers," chief homicide investigator Fernando Miranda Guerrero said.

"They blew up his brain," he said in Spanish. "It was completely destroyed."

Investigators continue to search for those responsible and said they are unsure whether Centeno's death was drug-related.

Others who have cooperated with authorities against the region's entrenched Gulf Cartel have been found dead in recent months with similar messages left with their bodies.

Some of them have been discovered with their fingers cut off and placed in their mouths.

Centeno's mother told authorities she last saw her son about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
His death is the ninth murder in Reynosa since the beginning of May, Miranda said.
